Car shampoo

Featured Replies

Bought a bottle of Meguiars Gold Class, Halfords genuine sheepskin mitt and an Autoglym clay set yesterday and have to say they are all excellent. The mitt was only £7 but it really does seem to be a good buy.

The bad thing about the Halfords lambswool mitts is they're dark, making it harder to see trapped dirt in them.

I am also going to buy thses mitts.

This is what I have been using this afternoon and what I normally use.

P.S. Coffee is optional - It helps to create Elbow Grease, lol! :giggle:

The only other things are a Dyson (DC07) vacuum, AG Interior Shampoo and AG Fast Glass.

Opinions anyone?

DONT use a wash brush!! They scratch the paint

Simoniz Colour Magic is rubbish...Use Poorboys Black Hole Glaze instead

I dont like Megs Cleaner Wax either...Best Polish for bucks is AGSRP

I want to rejuvinate my 04 silver Furby. Apart from a few chips to the bonnet, the paint is in reasonable condition with only light swirl marks. Gutt instinct tells me the previous owner didnt bother with washing to car too much which had probably save to paintwork imo. I want to make the car look as best as I can by hand so am I right with the folllowing? ...

- Wash it with Megs Gold Class shampoo.

- Clay it with any old clay bar using a suitable lubricant.

- A polish to be applied by hand (Dodo Juice Lime or Poorboys SSR1 - which is best for ease of use with good results?)

- A sealant which will then offer a protective barrier right? (again a recommendation for ease of use/quality) Colonite, Dodo Juice, Jetseal, which one?

- A decent wax to make the paintwork look bright and glossy, any recommentdations on this?

Have i missed anything out, is there anything that works well on a silver car to make it really bright and glossy?

Good god I have been googling the likes of Dodo Juice while writing this, how expensive lol!?! Think I will need to add that I really cant be spending £100's of pounds, I just want my car to be protected and look good.

Thanks ;)

Back to the original question - and for anyone on limited funds - I've occasionally used Johnsons Baby Shampoo on my cars.

Certainly better than resorting to Fairy Liquid, and if its gentle enough for baby's head etc etc

Just use the money you save to buy a wash mitt and the two buckets and everything else mentioned above.

Saint - I would go with Autoglym SRP (Super Resin Polish) if funds are tight - works well when applied by hand and available at Halfords so no delivery costs and you can take advantage of the current BOGOF.

At a push you could skip the sealant and go for a decent wax - Collinite 476s or FK 1000p (FinishKare) as recommended by Baker 21 above.

And to give you something to aim for, here's the detail I did on Little Katie's old silver Fabia vRS - http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?p=800842#post800842

Well i have just finished washing the car with Meguiars Gold Class Car Shampoo and Conditioner and the mitt to go with it and yes it is really good. The guy in Halfords say's that's what he and his mates use as it is the best around.

Used 4 cap fulls of liquid to 1 gallon of hot water and it lathered up nicely and no smears on the car. The mitt is better than a sponge but i did use the sponge on the wheels. With the mitt it seemed to clean better than the sponge and use less water.

After washing it i dried off with the Kent microfilter cloth that took all the water off and left the bodywork and windows smear free.

So all in all i am a happy chappie with the new cleaning stuff.

Well worth the money.

Well done JP, now just cover it all in Mr Sheen :D

Thanks Andy ;)

Might give the SRP a whirl then, see what kind of results I get with that.

Love the depth of colour on that silver, thats the sort of results I'd like to acheive.

Been to Halfrauds and got some Meg's Gold for £16 and the SRP was free, good buy for sure. WIll give them a go tomorrow.

ORDERD MY maguires nxt bog off great stuff been useing maguires products for years now,

Got a big bottle of triple wax. Good stuff when I put it in my PW's detergent bottle. Once thats finnished I'll get the bit 2.5l bottles of AG's shampoo... that is if halfords BOGOF is still going by then.
