Could be the turbo, but sounds very like a boost hose has popped off, lots of similar stories if you have a search around the Fabia section. :thumbup:

If it is the worst (hope not) I have a PD150 turbo for sale...

It will be a boost hose popped off. Turbos usually make a horrendous noise before they blow. It will be the bottom boost hose to the intercooler.

Intercooler pipes all ok - RAC man checked it. There's lots of oil in one of the hoses coming from the turbo if that makes any sense to anyone?

Hard to tell without seeing it, if you trust the RAC man has checked the intercooler hoses then it may be your turbo, but the bottom IC hose is a pig to get to and see with the undertray on.

The boost pipes do have some oil in them normally, usually evident at the connector behind the inspection gap in the drivers inner wing cowling, what levels of oil are you talking, oil running from the pipes or a good coating and a couple of drips in low laying areas?

Prices could range, popped hose = free-£30 depending on the garage for putting back on.

Blown turbo depending on your route and any knock on damage can go from £600-£2k

Mine went at 27k. Does your car have a full Skoda Service history? If so, then they will probably pay for the parts and you pay for the labour. That's what happened with me and the overall cost was £200 (which included a new intercooler).

Unfortunately, the last service was done about 1k ago by an independent VAG specialist. Servicing for the first three years was done by supplying Skoda dealer. Do you think it's worth going down the 'good will' route?

Having had boost pipe failure, I really would make absolutely sure it's not that before buying a new turbo. You will get lots of oil everywhere, as it condenses in the IC over time anyway, and now has a way of getting out. As has been said, without the undertray and/or wheelarch liner off, it's not possible to check all the connections, plus, when there's no pressure from the turbo, the bottom hose can sit against the rubber connector on the IC, so a visual inspection still might not show up the problem anyway.

And no, I don't think the wrong oil could case the turbo to blow, unless something like bitumen was put in by mistake. It might cause long-term wear issues, but I'd be extremely surprised if anything would happen in the space of 1,000 miles. And anyway, TBH, I'd trust a specialist much more to use the right oil than a dealer!

I would definitely try the 'good will' route. I didn't even have to ask my dealer, they offered. I think it's unreasonable for the turbo to go that early and you definitely have a case. The latest service may be a stumbling block as I wasn't in that situation, but if Skoda have serviced it up to 1k miles ago then i would push it if you have to. Hopefully it wont be the turbo, or Skoda will be as reasonable as they were with me.

White smoke seems to indicate the turbo has gone, Black smoke then the I/C pipe is leaking/detached.

Seems fair enough that, thinking about it. Black smoke because of overfuelling, but white smoke due to oil and/or diesel getting into the exhaust, which ISTR is how the Red Arrows make their vapour trails.

Thats fairly cheapish for a new kkk. You can get the old one reconditioned depending on how bad it let go, no idea on prices though! Most require seeing the turbo first before they can give prices.

To cut down on the cost, find a used Turbo and change it yourself, It's not a hard job if you are used to a bit of car maintainance. Don't bother about the Cat as you don't really need one on a diesel motor, buy a substitute blank pipe.

I have a PD150 Turbo that has low miles that is going for a lot less than that. Let me know mate :thumbup:
