This was flagged up when i was last in the garage, does anyone know if theres an easy fix for this or will it be a new arb? mines a standard 05 vrs.Funds are a little low at moment as i also need to get my eibach springs fitted so a diy repair would be handy? ;)

Which part has broken? Where it attaches to the chassis?

Have you seen where it is broken? It will attach at two points on each side.. One is straight onto the car, just behind the driveshaft (the large tube that goes from the wheel into the car), and the other is on the suspension assembly itself right at the end of the bar. If its the mountings where it attaches to the car, then its an easy (if not slightly fiddly) fix, the brackets and bushes themselves cost about £20 for both sides.

If you take the wheel off, you'll be able to see it quite clearly.

ok thanks buddy i'll check it out

The original arbs had plastic sleeves that crack and break over time. They were superseded with arbs with metal collars to fix this. Very common.

I'm afraid if its the collar, its a new arb. I doubt its the mounting brackets.

If its not fixed, it can apparently cause damage to the sub frame as movement increases.

Changing the front arb also requires the sub frame to be dropped i believe, so a bit of a pig and WILL require an alignment afterwards.

Where abouts are the plastic sleeves located on them? on the droplinks? I've just had a nosey at mine, and can't see anything obviously that could be a collar/sleeve.

the collars are located about a foot inside of the wheels under the car and i htink they are hidden behind the plastic sump guard/sound deadening panel.

I think you might be able to see them from under the bonnet too if you have a good torch and can peer down beside the engine.

Mine started comingoff but I didn't have the funds at the time to get a new bar fitted

so we fitted a couple of jubilee clips either side of the collars to hold the collars in place worked well for about 18 months

FYI a new bar and cmlanmps and bushes are about £60 all in but as said above it will need the subframe dropping out to replace it and you'll need alignment checking after that which is probably another £60

Pretty sure you can see these if you put your head underneath the rear of the wheels, follow the arb. i *think* the collars sit either side of the mounting brackets to stop side to side movement.

An alignment normally sets me back about £30-40 on a hunter, as only the fronts are adjustable (without shims)

search and ye shall find!!

How to change a Fabia Front Anti Roll bar

in this picture the metal collars are visibile on the new red bar (the small lumps at either end)

but the plastic crappy ones which break look exactly the same but are hidden under bushes on the old black bar
