2.0TSI tuning stages and outputs

Featured Replies

ive been trying to dig out some info about the new TSI engine and its tuning abilities.

The TSI has a better HPFP than th TFSI engine, and it seems that the stage 1 remap on the TSI is very similar in outut to the TFSI with a stage 1 remap and upgraded HPFP.

so im guessing the stage 2 will be similar to the Stag 2+ on the TFSI.

does anybody have any dyno results or decen links with the potnetial outpus for a stage 2 TSI.

What abou intercoolers?? do the TFSI uprate dintercoolers fit the TSI as well, or are they not interchangable.

What are the intake options available.

How do these take to a k04 conversion????

etc etc

The intercoolers are the same part number for the FL vs. pre-FL octy in ETKA

Apparently the stock intake on both versions is a good design by OEM standards, i've been told not to bother changing it but if i want i can put in a good quality high flow panel filter, but even that he didn't seem too keen on. Reasons cited were intake temps would suffer and heat soak would be much more of a problem than on stock (e.g. performance wouldn't last), noise would be a big issue and performance would be so marginally improved that you could get 50% of the way there with just a high flow panel filter. Also other stuff about water ingress and random stuff i didn't fully catch.

Don't think the K04's a straight fit, the stock IHI turbo is a different pattern to the k03 and the exhaust manifolds are different part numbers in ETKA too.

Revo wouldn't talk about stage 2 on the phone, kinda fobbed me off a bit with talking about different performance modes for the stage 1 map.

Sources:

Happy to be corrected on any of this:

the ETKA stuff i'm sure of because i checked it myself

but the guessing about IHI turbo being a different pattern is just guessing based on the fact it's a different turbo, the manifold is a different part and it's a different part number for the downpipe from blueflame and for turboback from miltek.

Intake stuff is from a discussion with John @ Bedrock Veedubs who seems very well respected and i know he's been doing this for a long time, he runs a Leon Cupra too IIRC, and he's just generally a nice guy who seems to know everything :giggle::thumbup:

i have found this intake from ITG. this is one part of a 2 stage upgrade.

The guy who had this fitted logged his stage 1 MK6 GTI. standard intake made 197g/s. with this intake it was increased by 16g/s to 213g/s peak, with the power being achieved 800 rpm higher in the rev band.

16g/s potentially equates to a 20Hp increase in peak power. (worked out from MAF/0.81=16/0.81. from the rosstech website)

there is a second upgrade being developed to improve the other pipework leading to the turbo.

But will it fit the mondeo? :giggle:

I have done some work on the mk6 golf gti's. Great gains even with stage 1 revo. The THS intercooler fits on the golf so should fit on the octavia (i have the THS on my pre FL). Stage 2 revo should be out soon. Revo have bought their own MK6 gti to play with and get the mapping spot on. I may be wrong, but I thought the turbo was a BorgWarner item as per the TFSi turbos? The K04 will fit on the TSi with a little modification and so will GT3071's etc as the BSH tubular mani fits. The only issue is the fueling on the BT stuff. The turbo is actually slightly smaller than the K03, but more gains seem to be available.

The turbo exhaust flange on the TSi is the same as the TFSi. Compressor side is the same is the TFSi and the diverter valve is the same too.

The TSi engine has been fitted to golfs in the USA for around 3 years so quite a few parts available over there.

Where do you find all this stuff!

To be fair, that intake looks (to my untrained eye) like it's the best of both worlds, stock vs upgrade. Did ya find a price?

Is this a thinly veiled insight into your next car Sy?

Great gains even with stage 1 revo.

Some of the graphs are seriously impressive

I was going to say it's a KKK brand on the TFSI but did a google and BorgWarner own KKK so that makes sense. They don't seem to own IHI from what i can find though.

Just checked ETKA, the remark field on the pre-FL next to turbocharger says BorgWarner, but on FL, this is where my ETKA knowledge goes down the pan, so for FL it lists 2 parts 06j 145 701 T and 06j 145 701 K. Next to the T one, it says "D - >> 25.05.2009" and remark field is blank, next to the K one it says "D - 25.05.2009 >> *" and remark field says IHI. So does that mean T part for cars newer than 25.05 and K for cars before? Actually if i double click on the T part it says "dropped on 01/07/2009 please use replacement" and then it lists the K part.

Does 25.05 tie in with ltd edition and 01.07 tie in with FL model?

No pictures for these parts in ETKA

That sounds promising. I wonder if there's a bigger straight bolt on replacement from IHI too?

Handy to know

Im hoping for a posting back out to germany so another tax free car could be in the pipework. All i know is what ever i get it will have DSG or simliar, and needs to be tunable (cost effective) and be able to reach 300Hp for not to much money.

guy off of the GTI forum has had this done already. i merely copied and pasted it over lol. intake wise the TSI is a lot simpler. Price wise i believe your lucking at sub £250. ITG are the guys producing them.

The part numbers are odd. Ive looked through the golf TSi part numbers and they list the same as the octavia. Numbers 701T is dropped and the 702K is the one to use as you say. I have looked at pics of the 701T and it looks exactly the same as the BorgWarner K03/K04 turbos, but i cant see the KKK logo on it. IHI have always made turbos for Jap cars and ive never seen them on VAG cars. I am waiting from a call back with our turbo supplier to who makes the turbo as they have no record of the part numbers.

A filter for the TSi is very simple to make compared to the FSi. I am working on one at the moment with a higher flowing open cone filter. Results will be up soon. Just stacked with X-Bows for the next few weeks.

Just checked the Revo site, for stage 1 98ron fuel map they are quoting 266bhp and 313 lb/f...! yowzer !! B)

Its a bit pricey however..

http://www.jkm.org.uk/performance/tsi-skoda-jkm.htm

JKM Have a Project TSI Octavia. There results from stage 1 revo, (with Miltek cat back exhaust), are 254.5bhp, 310lbs on their dyno.

I now feel gutted about going Superchips Bluefin on my car as I know that its nowhere near those figures.

Just got some info in the turbo. It is indeed made by IHI and only available through VAG. IHI wont sell the turbo to the aftermarket.

apparently the HPFP on the TSI is rated at 150bar.

considering the tfsi is rated @ 130 BAR and stuggles to meet that pressure as standard, hence the need to uprate the pump. So you can see where the extra torque is coming from.

other searches have shown the downpipes to be identical, intercoolers are interchangable between the TFSI and TSI. discharge/charge pipes are slightly different. awesome GTI are selling them.

So from what i gather bluefin have already got a stage 2 produced, however even at stage 2 it seems to be outperformed by revo stage 1 on the TSI. nt suprised tbh, it was pants on my car.

revo are still refining their stage 2 map.

wha other tuners have remapped stage 2 on the TSI then??

Does it sound like a throttled goose (like the BSH intake hehe)

the itg i had on mine sounded awesome and made impressive an impressive 9hp more than the code red induction kit i was running before(which made about 7hp over stock iirc). It seems the gains are similar and from what i have read, with it being enclosed its pretty quiet.

ITG use foam filters and so sound differnt to the cotton filters from evoms/bsh etc

My Guess is the K04 is a no go, hence why the Golf R and Rocco R still use the 2.0TFSi with a K04 rather than a TSi lump

so it all ties down to how it looks ehehe

I really need togetthe spacer .. then refit the filter.. Miss the sound .. but dont miss the goose lol

JKM are planning to fit one to their TSI demo car..?

We hopefully have a customer with a MK6 GTi who will be going BT with a 3071 soon. Should be able to run this at lowish boost levels and still get 350 + bhp. Eurojet racing should have a catch can for the TSi available soon.

Some great info on the TSi engine here TSi Info

I was also wrong on the downpipe fitments. The TSi flange is very slightly different to the FSi flange.

Awesome GTI already have their stage 3 turbo upgrade out for the TSi engine and are quoting 380bhp and 380lbft. It is a slightly smaller turbo than the GT2871R that they used on the MKV golf TFSi engine. Linky below - not a bad price either!

Hmmm... maybe it is different in America but I'm sure the engine code on mine is starting CCZ :S

Only noticed because I was talking to Ben @ Shark last weekend in regards to the power outputs etc

ah hello there Mr hurdy fancy seeingyou here. thank for that link. ill have a read of that....................................

in all seriousness though, can the TSI engine handle 380Ibft of torque. The BWA certainly wouldnt

Good info Alex  someone posted the original PDF that comes from but i can't find the link just now :-(

- more 02 sensors on exhaust system

For the TSi that's not right, i've looked and there's definitely only 1 o2 sensor on the TSi (post cat) the pre-cat lambda's been replaced with mapped values in the ECU.
