My fabia won't move?

Featured Replies

hey guys, appreciate some help.

A few days ago, my Fabia 2003 was giving me some problems in terms of acceleration. It seems to be very heavy when shifting gears.

Sometimes even the motor turns off.

Now, the car is running, but I can't put any gear, as if it is stuck, and it won't move :(

Any ideas???

T

can you put it in gear with the engine turned off ???

if so do that

foot on the clutch and attempt to start

if it jolts forward with your foot on the peddle, your clutch is fubar !

as for loss of power and cutting out that could be a numerous amount of problems !

unfortunately im not clued enough about the fabias to know the common faults !

I tried to shift gears while the engine is off, it seems ok. But when trying to move the car when the engine is off, and the first or second or any other gear is engage, the car moves!!!!!!

It seems the clutch or fly-wheel has worn out.

Can any body confirm that guys?? Where can I found drawings on how to change clutch or fly-wheel?

By the way, I remember now that before this happened, the clutch made knocking noise when changing gears.

Thanks foe all.

Hi any suggestions on this matter will be good as mine does exactly the same.

Thanks

Thomas

It might just be the release mechanism that's had it.

It could do it the clutch isn't releasing from the flywheel.

Hi again,

would this mean a new clutch? also do you think it would be expensive

thanks

Thomas

Check-out gear-box oil level.

Check clutch pedal cable operation on top of gear-box, (needs two people)

Check gear linkages for excessive movement or no movement. ( needs two people)

Check master clutch/brake cylinder fluid level.

Possible faulty clutch switch (brief mention in 'Haynes Manual')

Get it to a garage for skilled diagnosis and cost to put right.

Just had a check and CV joint is loose and also centre hub Nut is missing so I think new CV and drive shaft.

yes it was in garrage a few months back for a new wheel bearing, looked at the wheel and noticed centre ca and big nut is gone. So persuming maybe garrage didnt do it correctly.

That's probably going to need a new bearing then.

The nut is gone? Lucky you aint dead

The wheel is still solid just the CV joint is not firm but could of made a right mess if it came fully out underspeed. just got to find a mechanic now as I start my new job next week. Talk about bloody good timing :).

The fear of loosing the wheel with the brake disc attached would be the worst scenario you can possibly imagine.

Chances are the bearings are not damaged is 50/50, so a new hub nut fitted at the correct torque could be the end of your problems.?? emoticon-0105-wink.gif

TBH I think take it back to garage an say WTF have you not fitted the nut etc...etc...give them a rocket up the jacksey!!! B)

P.S. Been there done that!! B)

Did get nut today £3.71 from skoda and popped it straight on with some good ole thread lock and everything is good, and again thank god nothing to bad the only thing was paying £13 for the 36m socket arrr. torque setting is roughly my weight times a few jumps will need to take it to garrge and get propper torque checked on it :)

This is the correct setting:

Main 12 point hub nut (all older types should be replaced with this type) = 50Nm (37lbf ft)+ 1/8 turn (45 deg. Use once only design!!) Tighten the nut up just enough to fully draw the driveshaft into the bearing unit, refit the wheel (do not fully tighten the five wheel bolts, wheel should not move, and no gap between wheel and hub), then put car on ground, then fully tighten the main hub nut, then fully tighten the wheel bolts in diagonal cross pattern!!
