Question About Older Cars

Featured Replies

I was thinking of updating my Fabia for a new one next year but I have decided to wait for the whole new Fabia which should be out in a few years time. My car ( 1.9 TDI ) is just over 5 years old and nearing 40,000 and with a 18 month old cam belt and four new tyres fitted last year, what over things will I need to be looking to change in the next 3 years or so. What goes wrong in older cars.

Mines got about 120k on a 53plate and tbh its held together quite well. Its required some bushes replacing and two cambelts but other than that its fine. Keep it serviced and as long as you don't hammer it everywhere you'll get much more life out of it.

What goes wrong? Not much. We've a 2000 W reg SDI on 99K and a 2004 04 reg on 133K. They purr (touches wooden head for luck)

My TDi has 165k and really only wear and tear items - Battery, Brakes, Exhaust, Console bushes, wheel bearings

My 10 year old/50K mile MPI has only really needed a steering rack , everything else is pretty much routine things that go in all cars , bushes , battery , tyres. Its on its original clutch and exhaust.
