Hi Everyone!

Featured Replies

Just come to say hello!

I have recently fell in love with the mk 1 octavia VRS been to test drive 2 yesterday but I am not looking to buy for a little while as I am going to Australia in 2 weeks and do not need the car till after then.

I am 19 years old and from the badlands of Coventry (Chaventry) so as you'd imagine insurance is a killer (being a group 16) however i'll grin and bare it and would rather pay the extra having a car to be proud of at my age than running another boring same old same french lukewarm hatchback made out of tin. I currently drive a cammed Saxo VTR which is a fairly nippy car but just doesn't have any creature comforts and isn't nice to be in at all... Oh and if you are wondering, there are only about 3 insurers that will cover me on the VRS, Chris Knott wouldn't touch me with a barge pole which surprised me but Brentacre have quoted me £2900 on a modified only basis, so i'll be getting a dump valve or panel filter..only minor mods... The things you do for love hey! But please don't treat me as a typical 19 year old lad, I work for jaguar land rover engineering armoured cars and doing auto electrics and fabrication so I have quite a good mechanical knowledge and hope to be as helpful to you as you can be for me!

Anyway, sorry for the essay!

I hope to get on with everyone here, seems to be plenty of knowledge and really good advice on the cars.

Many thanks,

Lew

Aup mate,

Don't blame you for falling in love with them, great car. I originally looked at a Skoda OCtavia VRS as my mate at work had a really nice MK1, bright yellow. Insurance had me a bit also when I was getting quotes, as I am also only 19 years old, There was one insurance company who quoted me under £2,000 if I remember correctly it was £1,700 ish. It was Premium Choice, it is best phoning them up on 0800 9542885 to get the best quotes. Although the quotes change all the time for some reason, they can only guarantee them for 24 hours unfortunately. So be careful, cuz if you come to buy your Skoda without getting a recent quote, you may find it has gone up by £100 or something.

In the end I found it was cheaper going for a 1.9TDi, that way you still have a bit of power behind you (not as much obviously) and better fuel economy. Plus when you can afford it on insurance you can have it re-mapped for about £300 (can get it cheaper but your looking at £300 for it to be done properly with pre & post rolling road etc.). If you have a 130PD engine then it can increase the power to about 170bhp and could knock nearly 2 seconds off the 0-60.

I have only just signed up to this site too so I havn't introduced myself yet so, if you don't mind mate, I will do it now on your little Blog :D ... I have just bought a Skoda Superb Edition 100 1.9TDi. I've fallen 4 it. Its going to take me a long time to get bored of it.

I am in a similar position to Lew, I am currently in my 3rd year of an apprenticeship at Bentley Motors in the Test and Development department so I hope I will be able to supply some of my knowledge to the site also.

Anycase.. happy hunting mate
