Having read a few welcomes, I note that most are happy drivers or at least about to be.......I came across this website when I turned into a disgruntled one! The car is on an 06 plate but only had 30 miles on the clock when I bought it some 10 monhs after it was registered.

End of May 2010 driving along M1 about 70 - 80 mph in outside lane when a warning light came on with a loud noise and a note to stop car and get to the garage it took about 300 yards to get over to hard shoulder and stop....Called out RAC who restarted car and towed me to a Skoda garage local to where I was going....Oil pump failure which took out turbo and of course the engine. Skoda offered 40% which I don't feel is enough seeing the problems on this site and knowing its not an isolated problem. I have paid the rest - £2,846.40 on my recon engine......Driving back home along M1 and the car packed up again - Turbo hose not fitted correctly! Thank god for RAC who did a proper job and put hose back in properly.

Now going to write to Skoda in hope of getting more money refunded. I will keep the car for another 18 months as I have a two year warranty and will sell....my problem is I really like the car, so will possibly go for another Skoda in the end... My mission is to make sure that no other driver has my heart ache and trying to get either Skoda to foot the bill or other drivers not to make the same mistake as I did and buy a car thinking it will last a long time before a serious problem occurs - I do have the car regularly serviced at a Skoda garage

Wow that is harsh, i would have thought the warranty would have covered the full cost of repairs.

Out of warranty as it is over three years old (March 2006)....To keep costs down it was a recon engine (having seen some of the threads that have paid up to six grand for a similar problem) - without the engine the car is worthless so couldn't even afford to part ex it. Hopefully in 18 months I should have a bit saved up for another car - can't take the chance of it going again. Bit annoyed as it only had 49,000 on the clock and as I stated previously, I love the car.

I'm not a mechanic but I always believed a diesel engine hadn't really run in until about 50,000 miles and would carry on to at least 250,000 - shows how naive one can be. My car knowledge is very poor but I can tell the difference between the fan and seat belt - but only just!
