Spare Wheel

Featured Replies

How many of you have bought a spare wheel rather than the can of spray thingy? I've been told that you can't have a full size spare with the Elegance Estate (18inch wheels) and that you can only have a space saver - is this true?

Cheers.

My Elegance came with a 16" space saver. surprised to see it is fitted with a Michelin Energy tyre. Got to ask why? :wonder:

Yes that's what the latest (25th May 2010) brochure says as well.

I could understand the energy tyre if the Greenline came as standard with a spare wheel, but it specifically doesn't. The UK S spec has a full-sized 16" steel spare that matches the supplied alloys size-wise. If a spare is specified as an option on the SE & Elegance I suppose it would make sense to use the same part from a BOM point of view. I suspect they call it a space-saver to differentiate it from a full-sized 17/18" spare wheel.

This is pure speculation but you are not the first to remark that their Superb was supplied with a 16" steel spare. I'm hoping this is the case as I would much prefer a standard wheel rather than one of those silly narrow space-savers.

Best regards

David

Just got a spare for my new Greenline, It will be the best £130 I have spent. I have had an experience of sitting on the side of the A19 for four hours waiting for a spare wheel when all I had was a tin of Gunk. It came as a steel wheel with the same type of Tyre on as the alloys fitted.

There really can't be that many punctures where the gunk actually works.
