Disc brake lock

Featured Replies

Hi all,

A while back whilst trying todo the TT mod I came across the fact that my front drivers side is missing a disc lock. So if I try and put the wheel back on and knock the disc then the holes will be un-aligned.

So what bolt do I need and how easy is it to fit?

If your on about the retaning screws x2 of them then it dont matter just turn the disc till your holes are lined up and then put the wheel on and fix nuts

That would be the one. Well you would think its that simple but no, haha. They kept getting knocked out of line. Took alot of hassel to get it back on, so when I need to change the wheel in a crisis I would rather not have the same issues

Hi,

There you go :-

Part Number:- N 106-483-01 (Hex' socket countersunk bolt M6 x 16 long )

This just stops the disc rotating (one per disc) when you take a wheel off and keeps the wheel bolt holes lined up.

Cheers

Neither of my rear ones have them as the screws wouldn't come out when I changed the discs so had to cut the heads off. One day I'll get round to drilling the screws out and re-tapping the hole.

common on vag cars, they often shear, fit using loads of copper grease and dont overtighten, there is no need, they only locate the disc in place the bolts are what hold it to the hub once the wheel is fitted.

I've seen some car tool kits that contain a plastic wheel stud. Screw the stud into the hub, put the wheel on, fit the wheel bolts, remove the stud and fit the reamaining bolt. Alternatively you can use an old wheel bolt with the head cut off and a screwdriver slot sawn into it.

Strange - never had any problems myself when swapping corners on the drive - and that's all four wheels?!?!

If you use the high tensile grade 10.9 hex. recess black c'sk screws or the torx head disc securing screws, then these are less likely to round out when trying to remove them . These screws invariably seize on the underside of the c'sk head. To remove sheared or rounded out screws ( or ones that have had the heads driiled off) I've found that if you drill a small hole a bit smaller than a torx bit driver and hammer in the bit it should come out quite easily. As suggested a bit of copper slip will stop the corrosion & seizure in th future..
