A/C always on

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Clutz that I am, I managed to stall at a junction (I know...in a diesel...!); when I restarted, the A/C came on (it wasn't on before) and now it won't switch off (unless the fan setting is at 0). The light on the A/C button goes on and off, but irrespective of that I can hear the A/C motor turning (and feel the cold air coming out). The other thing is that now the air recirculation button doesn't work at all - it neither recirculates or 'un-recirculates' the air, and the light never comes on.

I have tried switing off the ignition and restarting, but both problems remain - the only thing is that when turning the key, the air recirc light briefly flashes.

Anyone any ideas?

With many thanks,

Paul

Try disconnecting the battery for 5minutes, resets all the electrics.

Thanks TriggerFish - I'll try that when I get home from work tonight.

Did I read somewhere (can't find it now...) that I'm best off disconnecting the negative / black terminal first and reconnecting it last?

This is probably a dumb question, but I have no reputation that's not already lost...will resetting the electrics cause the link between my key and the car to be lost? I'm guessing only my station presets will be lost.

NOt sure on the first bit. Only thing that should be lost is the trip computer/mpg stuff, standard radio and key should be fine, after market radios will reset..

Just disconnect the negative (-) lead, you can leave the other one connected as it does not matter once the circuit is broken by removing the negative terminal.

OK...got into the car in the work carpark, turned on the ignition, and the problem's vanished! Very strange, but I suppose I'm happy...er...

I'm half expecting the A/C to be on tomorrow morning, in which case I'll try disconnecting the battery as suggested, but for now it seems to be OK!

With many thanks

Paul
