VAG-COM Fault Codes

Featured Replies

Hello all,

scanned my mothers 2001 1.6 octavia earlier and came up with a 3 faults 2 i'm concerned about.

firstly i got 16555 - fuel system bank too lean

the documentation suggests it could be anything from the pump through the injectors to the intake or the MAF. this seems a fairly long list of things to check - the MAF is my instant suspicion but the car runs well (mostly, see below) otherwise.

secondly i got 01044 - control module incorrectly coded

as before the car runs well enough and all the locks work fine. its a base model (no electric windows, tape deck that sort of thing) so i'm not concerned at all but the explaination for this reaches just about everything but the MAF. can this be happily ignored?

it also doesn't like the front left speaker but i'll joggle the wires and see what happens.

anyway,

the car does have a stalling issue particularly when cold. it stalls super easy not helped by the accelerator having about a foot of free play before anything happens making pulling-away usually rev happy. i imagine running lean doesn't help this? however, this car is 9 years old and may never have had any fault codes cleared so could be fresh from the factory problems long resolved. basically any light shed on any faults appreciated.

regards

toby

It could be a vacuum leak, making it run lean.

My money is on the maf though, it's probably not reading the air probably, thinking theres less than there actually is. If that makes sense.
