Climatronic question

Featured Replies

Hi

Is here anyway of getting the climatronic temp down past 18 degrees

Im looking to get the icy blast that you can get from a normal a/c unit

at the minute i have it at 18, but if its 18 outside the car then the car never cools

Press the cold button again and it should go to "LO" I think?

Yup,... Well, does on mine anyway,...

Yeah mine goes to LO, but I was under the impression that when its on LO it is not using the a/c unit, just the blower

Should be using the a/c unit,... If it's not proper cold may need a re-gas??,....

'LO' puts the aircon on full whack so that it ignores the temperature in the car & just keeps trying to cool.

Unfortunately, from my own experience & what I've read on here, I don't think you will. These systems don't seem to do that.

Dunno about the aircon system, but i do know that i've never had to put it below 19c even when the car's baking hot inside it takes less than 2 mins to get it chilled

should do, tho LO bit is the AC on full, mine chills my feet after a bit .

also worth getting the reciever dryer unit changed as they can cause the ac to not work or not work well. £16 from euro car parts

Not wishing to hijack the thread, but maybe someone could give a quick guide to the system, I personally don't find the manual very clever on this area.

From my understanding when it says AUTO on the right it's using the AC, when it says ECON it's not, so what's it doing when it doesn't say either AUTO or ECON?

Am I correct in thinking that when the display says Off, if you push the screen button all that happens is the system is turned on? You seem to need to press screen again to actually activate the screen clear.

Think i'm right here lol

Auto means the aircon is on and it decides where to put the air and how powerful the fan is

nothing there means the fan speed and direction of air is on your setting and the aircon is on

Econ the aircon's off

The way I see it is when it says econ the ac is off, other than that it's on, and your'e right about the next bit, any button switchs it on then you need to select the function your after

I've a 1.9 TDI, when I turn the AC on I don't notice any change in revs, engine load, or engine note, is this the same for others?

I kind of expected to be aware of a change of load on the enginer when running the compressor.

I only ask because my AC doesn't seem to be functioning and I'm also trying to diagnose a possible AC or alternatot cluth failure they may be the source of my broken tensioner.

I definately notice a change in engine note on my VRS when the compressor is running. Could be your compressor clutch has come off.

Is it a mechanical or electronic clutch on these?

Would the AC clutch failing cause the tensioner to snap like the alternator clutch does?

When it's on Auto, the controller decides on the fan speed and which outlets to use to achieve the target temperature that you have set. if you adjust the fan speed yourself it will remove the Auto from the display.

The Econ indicator tells you whether the aircon compressor is in use or not - when it's showing Econ then it's not available so the system won't be able to cool the interior below ambient temperature. Not a problem in the winter but not great in summer. As an aside, when the temperature drops below 5 degrees outside then the compressor is automatically disengaged anyway.

As others have mentioned if you keep pressing down on the temperature it will go from 18 to Lo which is where it will blow air as cold as it can. When the system is working well, this *should* be icy cold (well, about 12 or 13 degrees).

If it's not this cold and you haven't got it on Econ then there are two likely culprits. The first is low gas pressure in the system - kwik-fit do a fixed price regas with a guarantee that if it doesn't improve things it's free.

If a regas didn't fix the problem then it could be that the nut has come off on the clutch for the compressor - if you are very lucky everything will be there on the undertray and you can fix it yourself but very often the shaft and thead get damaged and you need to replace it which is costly.

I'd go for a trip to KwikFit and take it from there.

=

Electric clutch on the Octy air con system. The clutch on the aircon pump tends to fall off rather then lock up, although I guess it might cause the tensioner to break.
