drivers door lock

Featured Replies

I know I'm repeting but I am really desperate....some member said:

"Sometimes it works and all doors close, other times only the drivers door locks and the rest of the doors stay open. Closing the car using the lock on the trunck works fine everytime, so when the doors do not close using the lock on the drivers door, I can still lock it using the trunck's lock... but you can imagine that's annoying. The second problem is (I think the're related) that sometimes the interier light does not come on when opening the door."

all this with the key. I really need to solve this problem because with autolock at 20kmh, with this problem the lock keeps locking and unlocking.

what can I do? buy the whole piece? just a little piece?

thanks in advance

The interior light fault suggested a faulty microswitch in the door lock, or water ingress into the connector block of the window motor in the drivers side door.

I have to buy that microswitch? the part number is the same for every model or I have to dismount my door lock unit and check it? I've seen the tutorial, no big deal, I like doing this type of stuff but I'm relutant because don't know if it's going to solve the problem.

what's the window motor got to do with it?

thanks in advance

The switch should be the same on all the microswitch a "SAIA Burgess v4nsul" switch cured mine, along with about 5 hours of filing the lock to get the switch to sit properly. It would be worth you checking that the pins in the loom connected to the window motor are not corroded also. I have had both these problems at different times, but the symptoms you describe lead me to think you could have both of them going on simultaneously.

The symptoms I had with the window motor loom were:

  • Central locking locking and unlocking itself at random
  • Electric windows going up and down of their own accord
  • Clicking relay in door at times
  • Electric mirror adjustment not working

The symptoms with the faulty microswitch were:

  • Courtesy light not coming on when door opened.
  • Lights on warning buzzer not working
  • Nearly got locked out of the car with keys in ignition!

I have nothing of that :)

these I have lol but never got locked with the keys in ignition and I add another:

- manytimes drivers door locks and the others won't

- at autolock 20kmh, all doors lock and the drivers door manytimes unlock after locking...and if I run below 20kmh and go up 20kmh, it locks and unlocks again. it goes on and on until it closes finally but it's random. it could be at first chance locking or 4th chance or even 10th and I give up that time...

so I might buy the microswitch, but I have to dismount the lock first to see the part number and then go to an electrical house to find it right? but if it was standard, I would appreciate if someone sent me one or two home, I would pay through paypal.

cheers mate

Google for the description pdhealy gave. Finding the microswitch locally may well be hard, ordering online is probably the easiest. Have a search on here, as sourcing the microswitches has been covered quite recently.

iirc, each lock has 3 microswitches, can't remember all of their purposes though: lock sensor, unlock sensor and door open, it is probably the 3rd one which has failed..

If you get the lock mechanism out, at the bottom, you will see two wires leading to the offending switch. Thankfully, it's the easiest microswitch to replace. Try not to get the exact same switch as the existing one, as this switch seems prone to failure. The "SAIA Burgess V4NSUL" switch seems to have a better reputation.

As suggested this seems to be a prominent fault inherent to earlier Octavias. I used to have a 1.6 GLXi that had a similar fault in that the passenger door would never lock with the central locking. Only manually with pressing the door pin down. However I did eventually solve the problem by dismantling both front doors and cleaning every connector I could get to.

Not entirely sure if that's relevant to your problem or not, but it's worth a try since it costs very little in monetary terms since you just need a can of switch cleaner.

I've seen the DIY, no problem :) my problem is where can I get that "saia burgess v4nsul" switch?

thanks in advance

thanks a lot for your quick and useful reply. sorry, I know i'm a bit PITA but this microswitch will solve my problem?

Well now there is a difficult question to answer!

As none of us have actually seen your car we can't say. The best you can do is to pop the look mechanism out of the door and check to see if the microswitches work, check for dry joints and also check for water ingress into the loom connection block on the electric window motor (as this is a known fault).

This might then point you in the direction of replacing one/some of the microswitches or attempting to fix the connection block/pins due to water ingress.
