Bit of a judder in 6th under load

Featured Replies

Hi, just a quick question ,

noticed today, at about 1200 to 1700 if i plant my foot in 6th to the floor from 1200rpm

it judders at 1500 ?

dont seem like the clutch or anything ?

any ideas ? :wonder:

remapped with a miltec ? 97,000 miles ?

Yes that's your flywheel juddering.

You are trying to put an obscene amount of torque through the drivetrain unnecessarily. Use the gearbox, simples :)

"Planting it" at that low revs is not good for your flywheel - 2,000rpm+ is better ;)

From what I have read putting your foot down below ~2000rpm in high gears is a big strain on the clutch. If you do this a lot it's probably just got worse over time I would guess, to the point where you can now notice some symptom. Why would you want to do this anyhow? There's no go that low down in the rev range in 6th for me... drop a gear to 5th or even 4th then plant the foot.

cheers for the reply mate,

yeah i know its unnecessary, just wondered what it was not used to the diesel (my first diesel car), its fine in every other gear :giggle:

im guessting this will damage the flywheel ?

ill consider my self told off ! it wont happen again ,

so i take it hovering arround 2k it the best for the car ?

Complete stupidity......

Change down to accelerate

Saying that my peak torque is 3950 rpm :8

Scott, it's good you asked the question. This is what the forum is for. Diesels are particularly powerful at low revs as you now know. They produce massive torque spikes at low and mid range revs and it's just the dual mass flywheel protesting (actually...it's protecting your gearbox from damage). Have fun and enjoy your car! Post regularly to let everyone know how you are getting on with your first diesel.

cheers mate,

I have a simple rule on when to change gear on normal road driving--

Up to 10mph -1st. 20mph -2nd. 30mph -3rd. 40mph -4th. 50mph- 5th.

60mph and above 6th.

Saves the DMF from wear.

+1

Good advice from Bernie there. This is what I tell my Mrs to do when she drives mine.

Coming from an SDI she's quite used to flooring hers from low revs with no ill effect....

Not a good habit to bring into a mapped vRS

That said, She paid for my last clutch and flywheel, so she's being particularly

mindful of this speed/gear rule as she knows she'll also be paying for the next one too :D :D :D

I know I have no DMF but I tend to be *2 on that. i.e 20mph, find 2nd, 40mph, find 3rd, 60mph find 4th, 80 mph find 5th, 100mph find 6th. :D
