Ok guys, I'm going to be servicing the Octy today and just need a little help with my shopping list!

Oil - 5w40, right? How many litres do I need to do a complete change on the 1.8t? Does the sump plug need changing each time?

Plugs - Any recommended higher than others? Any I need to avoid?

Oil filter and fuel filter - usual spurious parts ok to use?

Brake fluid - flushing out completely and replacing with Dot5.1 - again how much does the vRS need for a complete change?

Air filter - already sorted

Belt - done last service 12k ago

Brakes replaced last night

Anything else that needs attention while servicing?

Cheers guys and gals

Craig

You may be best getting a sump plug. Got all my stuff from Skoda it didn't cost much more than anywhere else oil only

Cost jus over £20

Careful bleeding the brakes, you need a pressure bleeder so you don't kill the master clyinder

Might as well add pollen filter to that list, they replace that at every service and from Skoda it's not too expensive, something like £6 or £7.

Worth checking the wiper blades as well. And clean out the throttle body if it hasn't been done before.

I always use genuine VAG oil filter and sump plug for an oil change which are about £7 or £8 from the local dealer. You need 5 litres of oil, 4.5 to fill it up and another half a litre for top-ups until the next change. I got 5 litres of Castrol Edge from Opie Oils (They're site sponsors so you get a Briskoda discount) last time I did mine.

If you're using 5.1 brake fluid rather than 4.0 it's good for performance but you do need to change it regularly (like every 6 months instead of every couple of years) otherwise it absorbs air and loses it's performance. I've got a feeling I bought 3 one litre bottles last time I did a change but didn't use anywhere near that much, we'd only got through about one and a half bottles by the time it was bleeding through all the nipples without any dirt in it.

if you want genuine VAG parts at prices similar to eurocarparts try Sere Motors in N Ireland.

Ask for David Hawthorne in parts and he'll see you right.

I have just got the following from Opie Oils to serivce my TDI:

Air, pollen and oil filter + 5 litres of Fuchs supersyn oil, came to just over £45 including the postage with various discounts.

Sump plug came to about £1.99 from GSF- I bought several a while back to make life easier.

Off to collect 2 litres of G060 tomorrow to change the transmission fluid - £11.60 from TPS.

Wow... that sounds like a good price on the oil, even without the filters.... Sounds like a missed out on a good deal at Opie Oils :'(

I only paid £35 for oil, oil filter, pollen filter and sump plug and that was from skoda. Opie oils are cheapish for brand name stuff but think the oil only came tn £19.50 +vat

I am using longlife oil for my TDI though, so that will bump up the price, plus a diesel filter costs a lot more than the petrol counterpart.

True longlife does cost abit more
