Does this mean my boost pipe has popped off? If so once i put it back on is it more likely to do it again?? or is there a way of making it more secure??

Just for info as mine is on 67k now and I dont know when it will let go..

What is the mileage? remapped?

Did you follow the warm up and cool down period?

Thanks

its not that the turbo has gone it was fine just something has managed to break a blade on it

Do you know if it was the hot or cold side compressor wheel that went? Cold side (intake) could lose a blade if something was dropped into the air box below the air filter. Hot (exhaust side) would need something to be ejected from the engine into the exhaust downpipe.

Normally, blade failure is simply due to metal fatigue, or latent manufacturing defect. Also excessive shaft play, can cause a blade to contact the turbo housing, with less than desirable outcome.

Agressive remap? could cause that because of high rpm of the wheel it could not maintain balance causing it to bounce hence causing the squeeling and snapping..

Im not no expert a friend of mine had the same issue as yours on a Bora 130 TDI garage put it down to the agressive map the turbo couldnt handle it, he had to have the remap removed or tuned down to be on the safe side..

Whats the mileage??

Thanks

mileage is just under 60k ive had the map on for a year now so i would have thought its ok cos ive had no signs of anything going wrong

moggy how do i tell? my mate who checked it out did say it could have come rom the sirbox so assuming the cold side

Yep, airbox is the cold side. KKK Turbos get some bad press on here, but given the number of them compared to the Garret, they do just fine. MAP will not help, but isn't necessarily the cause of the failure. However, any MAP that produces more power, will result in faster turbo spool up. Given that the turbo can spin in excess of 250,000 RPM, you can imagine the G Force loading at the tip of the blades. It gets worse as the blades get a soot build up, as they get slightly heavier.

The faster the spool up, the greater the G Forces spike, before the turbo reaches maximum speed.
