intercooler cleaning

Featured Replies

got a long week off next week and thinking of flushing my intercooler, my brs has 73,000 miles on it. ive read a lot about cleaning it out but is there anypoint, also will it make a big enough differance to notice anything?

thanks

Depends if it's been running with elephant hose or not. If not, yes, a good clean will help reduce heat soak and improve air flow. Worth buying new hose end seals and clips for the boost pipes as well. You may also want to cable tie mod the connections, as they tend to pop off once you disturb them after high mileages.

Cable tie mod, is to prevent hoses popping off. You put a cable tie round each pipe close to the join, then link those two cable ties with another two.

Elephant hose mod stops the crankcase gases (which include oil vapor) getting back into the intake manifold. You disconnect the PCV rocker cover connection from the inlet, blank off the connector on the inlet, and run a new hose from the rocker cover outlet to an oil catch can.

There's a sticky about the mod at the top of the page
