Project car

Featured Replies

right people id like to reintroduce myself to the forum as i have been away for a while after starting my own car business

so now i have a nice bit of money set asisde after paying off all my uni fees ect i have decided to get a new car and i wana make it my project so i have something to do, i have got a 1.4 16v at the mo and want something a bit faster to start with now as a good base. After seing devons (jasons) mongrel its realy sparked me into keeping to the fabia.

The two i have narrowed it down to are the VRS and the 2l elegance ive set aside about £16.5K (including money ive saved car sale and money off mom and dad and family as a congrats pressie) thats for car, insurance, mods and a years motoring including fuel and any unforseen circumstances and before you all go you can get a new car diff car ect ect for that 1 i dont want another i want a furby and 2 if you see it like me... £5k plus for car (vrs bout 3 for 2L) £3K for insurance at worst, £2k ish for running and maitinence and £6.5k for mods it works out better and yh that included leeway and it was a big cut from my iniatal estimate

The advice i need is well advice on both cars good and bad recomendations and what mods i can do! all advise welcome and dont go jugeing me cus ive got my mind set i was gona go for an octy but the insurance both with and without mods was well not worth the long term waiting for the fall but the fab is!

£16.5K and you are looking at a fabia? emoticon-0114-dull.gif Crazy.

look at the breakdown and yeh i wouldnt have any other car at the mo, i know its stupid but if you just look at the car without mods thats £5k plus for a good one plus up to £2.5K for the insurance and about 2K for an estimated years running including fuel... you work it out and then say im crazy, yeh i could get any number of cars but they would screw me over on insurance, and fuel and matinence i felt like having a type r until i saw how much it would cost for a good one and the insurance and total running costs.... i had a heart attack almost when it came to 7/8k for a good car and 5k for insurance and 4k plus for running thats a total of 16/17k for just the car excluding mods and i would go for a new vrs but thats £20k plus for car and insurance alone!!! i mite be a bit daft but im not made of money, plus its a diesel so great for comuting (yes i am swaying towards the vrs but im looking at the 2l aswell) if i wanted another crap car that i didnt care about then i would say im crazy but im not after that im after a car i can call my baby and be proud of on a lowish project budget, as i said before dont judge me because it all makes sense when you break the figures down

I didn't judge you. Infact let me give you a little information about me that you probably don't know. I'm also a university student - Managed to own both a Skoda Fabia vRS and a Honda Civic Type R.

The Fabia was 06 plate and I managed to pick her up on finance for around 8k back in the day which was paid off in the same year. I then part-ex it for 7k added some more cash for the type R. £5,000 for insurance? I was 18 and in a vRS for around £1,100 then the type R a year later for about the same - Will dig the paper work out if you wish to see. The figures you listed really don't make sense - Sorry. The only way it would make sense is if you are running the car insurance through your company itself maybe?

I do wish you all the best with the 'Project' as such but would just ask that you double check all your facts and figures first. This for example shows my fuel for the year:

£40 Per Week = £160 Per Month = £1,920 Per Year.

350 Miles a Week = 1400 Per Month = 16,800 Per Year.

That would mean you spend £100 ish on fuel per week! (I know you did say 'running costs') but the cost of a service/tax/mot isn't that much either... This is why you have me stumped emoticon-0101-sadsmile.gif

i do near on 700-1000 miles a week now due to the business and what it entails obv its lower at uni but still about 500 a week, my 1.4 i give it £60 brimmed tank a week and that gets me 300-400 miles max drivin like a granny, i did do 2 tanks full in a day once basicaly being in the car all over the place for a day i therefore reccon id use £60 avererage a week, ive owned the fabia i have at the mo for half a year and it had 52k o the clock now it has 77,777.

If you need some help with the company - Please do send me a message and I will try my best to help.

I don't actually have a Student Loan/ Grant as such. I sold my Type R to pay for my uni fees and living costs! It was a good idea at the time but left me with a little Clio to run about in for now. This is all going to change soon what with me being on placement now and building the funds back up. Watch this space. :)

lol i will at the moment i have 5 employees, my mates basicaly and we are all working flat out its a great little earner we are basicaly middle men in the car buying and selling business we filled a neice that no-one saw was there,

did a go compare search insurance seems to be around the 1.8-2.2k mark for the vrs and about the same for the type r (bout 2.5k) thats just me with small excess ect and all the extras i can have

Edited by lex2311

you are mad you want a furby with that money lol

go buy a fast car that dont need mods like and evo or scooby or something quick to start with

as you have a car buisness insurance shouldnt be a problem as you can get a traders policy ;)

you buy a furby for X and put Y amount of mods on its still only worth X so not great way to spend the money as you will still only have a quick car not a fast car

i guess your money do what you want but a thats my input for you

p.s if you did get a furby the only mod to do is drop a 1.8t lump in it.

I'd go for the vrs - the 2.0 l doesnt tune all that well, you are looking at 130 -140 tops from a remap and intake/ exhaust upgrade whereas the vrs has that as standard and turns alot better with its turbo.

" niche "

Check the guys sig.

Why not get two cars..? daily and weekend.. Gives you more flexibility and perhaps slightly better for ££ in the long run, im sure insurance is much cheaper with the weekend car if only driving once in a while.
