vRS exhaust

Featured Replies

On both my previous cars ive changed my exhaust just for a personal touch and a slightly better tone( all be it they were petrol) but i was just wondering how many people change the exhaust on their vRS's and why? Would the engine note change at all, would there be less soot coming from the exhaust? Anyone got any pictures they can post up of exhausts etc. Also, if i was to get one what would you recommend and from where?

Cheers in advance

Chris

Jetex were doing an offer on the VRS exhaust, not sure on the latest price though. Have a look on "Group buys" forum. Other popular exhausts are Blueflame, Milltek. I've stuck with the OE only because it is adequate and hasn't broken yet.

I'm in the process of getting a milltek cat back

Generally the idea for changing to a different tuned exhaust would be to change the whole system. But this is only worth while if you intend doing a few other mods to improve the running of the engine. otherwise you are just changing the rear box for cosmetic purposes.

However if you intend to upgrade more than just the exhaust for cosmetic reasons, look at the Miltec or Blueflame full exhausts with either sports CAT (like mine) or with Cat removal pipe. Car breaths a little easier with this mod...

Best people to chat with are JABBA, found on this site. great crowd and will not try and sell ou anything, unless you want them to...

enjoy,

I am contemplating keeping the standard cat, and removing the backbox completely. If you google 'mufflerectomy' there is lots of info on this. Supposedly the standard cat is not very restrictive anyway, so if its a more vocal exhaust sound you are after, then just get a pipe welded in place of the backbox.

Spotted this on youtube the other day:

might be worthwhile looking at!

the exhaust doesnt even make it sound like a diesel! haha. interested

Indeed it sounds awsome but I would be somewhat wary of the complete lack of back pressure with a decat and a straight through exhaust. VNT turbos (like in the vRS) rely on it to know how much to spool up and they have been known to overspool and blow up as a resault.

13k on a De catted Fabia VRS straight through exhaust and no issues to report ;)

By far the best thing i done to the car tbh

To be fair , I thought it sounded too loud and did not look as nice

But hey....may just be me

Sarah

It is loud, very loud when on full chat, had the back seats folded down yesterday to take some wheels from my house to my Fiancee's and the cabin intrustion compared to normal was un real. But it hasn't made me regret the decision one bit! I like a bit of noise lol, think out of all my cars 2 haven't had custom exhaust systems fitted

I dont think id go for a de-cat, is there a way of getting a similar sounding exhaust but not causing any potential damage?

Can you hear your turbo spooling? As it's not clear in the video. I am thinking of keeping the cat, but getting rid of the backbox, not 100% on what it would sound like, but there are a few on youtube that sound pretty awesome.

Didnt someone say somewher on the forums once upon a time, not having a back box is illegal but not having a cat is ok..? :wonder:

Nah you just hear the exhaust get louder as the turbo spools up, i've lost that little whistle you get, well it's drowned out lol

My MOT is due in 3 weeks so we'll soon find out lol

Here's my blueflame next to an oem tailpipe ( on Gareth1.8Ts LE )

for physical comparison.

I noticed earlier that someone posted a link to a cat back system on ebay for £195

From what I heard when doing a bit of research before eventually buying my Blueflame

that particular Jetex system is one of the "louder" ones available for the vRS.

I imagine this is due to the absence of a second backbox/silencer.

I didn't particularly want a noisier system

so in the end I opted for the Blueflame which does have the second backbox/silencer

and in return got a slightly deeper tone on tickover, and more turbo sound when I spank it a bit.

Although some may disagree, I think the blueflame tailpipe fits the hole very well and really suits the car.

Overall I'm happy with my purchase. Blueflame catback system. £285 delivered.

I agree which is why i'm wanting my tail pipe changed from it's current 6x3 to a 6x4 as it looks alot better

Diesels are not (at the moment) tested for emissions. They are only tested for smoke (particulates). So if it not too noisy nor smoky it will pass an MOT. I'm not sure about removing the particulate filter (DPFs) that some cars have. It is only Petrol cars that have a problem with de-catting.

I don't think removing the back box is illegal. However I have read that noise is tested. MOT garages test on is noise of the exhaust system If its over 74db you could fail your MOT.

I don't think noise is tested tbh, i work in a garage and have never once seen the MOT tester test noise, it wouldn't be accurate due to the radio and all the background noise going on. I think though if the MOT tester deems it too loud he can fail it but as for official db figures i am positive they aint checked

Im running miltek sports cat and miltek system

Wouldnt want my hybrid overspooling now ;)

I'm still running the standard turbo on mines lol

Mmm , think you will find that all the Fabia vRS exhaust systems only have 1 box

That is why Milltek do not offer a resonated and non resonated choice , as there is only 1 box
