Blue/Black Smoke after being chipped

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Could do with a bit of advice after having my fabia chipped.

The car is now has a bit of black smoke after putting throttle on at around 1300rpm, but also smoking blue smoke when pushing hard from around 4000rpm on and looks like alot of it.

Is this normal, i know they can smoke more just worried it might be causing some damage to the engine, or the map is set up wrong.

Thanks for the help

Black smoke is just unburnt fuel

Who did the 'chip'?

Blue smoke however is oil being burnt off - something you need to get checked out.

blue smoke is bad. In my experience this means turbo seals failure or its eating oil for another reason.Have you been checking your oil levels weekly?

Thanks for the replys :)

The blue smoke has only appeared after the remap on high revs, well done remember seeing any before..

I have yet to check the oil levels on the car as it was only done on Saturday, the remap was done by a well respected company on here.

blue smoke tends to be oil (if its whispy white/grey and not blue on start up your fine its normal but can be a sign of newoil or a little bit too much oil) blue smoke can also be a problem with the turbo sometimes (and piston rings on a petrol) but check your oil also check your oil breather pipe to see if theres any smoke coming out of that if there is get it checked.

black smoke is fuel and nothing to worry about and will shoot out loads when you bury it. has been know to be a sign of it running rich but thats ok.

SLightly OT but it could be worth giving the car a shot of diesel fuel cleaner such as Millers or Forte and see if it helps a bit

And make sure you are using the correct oil.

And bad for your turbo.

If you have black smoke then check for boost leaks, and if there are none, then your map is overfuelling which you need to get fixed.

what can this affect, i think mine is over fueling loads of black smoke? (mainly in 3rd ?), but i think i do have a small boost leak too ?

As more diesel is injected, the exhaust gas temperatures go up. The higher the exhaust gas temperatures go, the risk of damaging something (i.e. melting pistons in extreme cases) gets higher. High EGTs in a turbocharged car can be damaging to the turbo and so black smoke is a big no-no.

So has the remap been set up properly ?? Heard many good things about the company on here.

The Blue smoke is being checked out by the garage next week so hopefully find out whats causing that.

That smoke is definitely not good and looks like burning oil.

You shouldn't have a noticeable amount of black smoke when driving so either you have a boost leak or the remap isn't quite right.

Think the blue smoke would be causing any damage ? Just so i dont drive it so much untill it goes to the garage Tuesday..

Could the garage have put the wrong oil in to cause the smoke, was bought from a fiat dealrship

That explains it then, Fiat fart box oil. :giggle:

Yeah i doubt they would have used the pd oil

Wouldnt surprise me, they serviced it before picking it up.

Looks like they have also done something to the abs speed sensors on the back brakes when they replaced them as vag.com brings up fault codes for them.

And bad for your turbo.

My turbo should have given up years ago then :giggle:

Maybe a trip to Shark is in order to sort out my James Bond style smoke screen.

i vote a word to the dealership if you bought it recently if you hadnt noticed you could have had a bit of big trouble on your hands

Will see what Seat say, if its something the Fiat dealer has caused i will be having words with them and including a bill for any repairs.. I have noticed the coolant seems to be going down also :(

I will reset the abs sensor fault and see if they come back.
