2.0 tdi pd superb for towing

Featured Replies

Hi everyone. I've currently got an 07 Octavia 1.9 tdi estate, but need a bigger car to pull a 5 berth caravan. Wanting to stick with Skoda so I am considering a Mk1 Superb (probably a 2.0 pd140). If anyone has experience of using one of these for towing I'd be interested in your opinions.

I tow with a 1.9 PD 130 PS (AWX). It's excellent.

I wouldn't touch the 2 litre PD in a Superb with a bargepole. Have a look at some other posts in this section to see what happens to it.

Take rotos's advice...or you will end up being towed in the superb 2.0 by rac van or similar

Go for AWX 1.9 130ps instead, it will not let you down...

I like Roto tow with a 1.9 130 TDi and it performs brilliantly, I tow a 4 berth end shower room caravan weighing 1400kg and regulary get over 30mpg, I used to have a 1.8T Superb and was very restricted to which caravan I could buy as it could only tow 1300kg, Staying with the Octy is probably the best idea but you might find yourself restricted with the caravans you can buy with a maximum towing weight of 1400kg, the Superb 1.9TDi max towing weight is 1600kg.

I recently towed a Volvo Amazon on a trailer with my Super 1,9TDI 131 hp.. Drove almost 600 miles with it, and it impressed me.... With a trailer-weight of probably 1600kg my dieselconsumption was 26 mpg.. No stinky clutch-smell after driving up hills and I kept it running with the other traffic without trailers =)

Thanks Roto, I take it the 2.0 PD tdi in any VAG car ie Audi, Octavia Scout, Passat etc is best avoided.........
