MP3 Player

Featured Replies

I have a 2004 (old shape) Skoda Octavia Ambiente with a 6 CD changer (in the boot) factory stereo. I would like to be able to listen to an MP3 player through this stereo but don't know if that is possible and, if it is, how I would go about wiring it in. Can anybody help?

Thanks.

I reckon it would be cheaper and easier just to buy an aftermarket unit. The stock head unit is pants to be honest.

Cheap way = buy one of those cassette adaptors and plug it into your Mp3 player

Expensive way = buy a new head unit that plays Mp3s

i had the same idea as you too and i did think about getting one of these

but i'm not sure if the cd changer would still work too or not.

i like some of the functions that the std unit has tbh like the speed adjustment (not sure if any aftermarket units would do this) and the lighting level etc

I know what you mean about the speed adjustment, found it last week and it's ace, and i'm quite pleased with the sound quility i had a kenwood headunit, amp and 6x9 infinitys in my old car and it isn't much worse (must be getting old!) lol

Thanks for all your tips, gents. The xcarlink looks good. Is it really as simple as buying it, pulling your stereo out, plugging the xcarlink thing in and plugging your MP3 player into the xcarlink thing in? Do you have to drill a hole to feed the wire out from the back of the stereo to where you can reach it in the car? I've never had my stereo out. I beleve you need Skoda keys to remove it.

You can remove it with Kenwood keys from Halfords or a couple of half junior hacksaw blades. Probably best bet for cable routing is to cut a hole in the side of the glovebox so you can have your MP3 player in the glovebox (thats what I've done with the ipod on my H/U), either that or pull out the cubby hole, cut a hole in the back of that and run the cable into there.
