Soundproofing Superb 1.9 TDI 2010 modell

Featured Replies

Is there someone who has added soundproofing materials to a Superb? We have the 1.9 TDI DPF 2010 modell and allthough noiselevels are accepteble, what would we be without giving in to the urge to add some more Bitumen padding etc?

What I am looking for is a couple of tips how to remove the panels, carpeting and lining inside the car, are there any screws or clips? They are not directly visible and I do not want to begin haphazzerdly pulling and ripping at the dashboard and panels etc. Under the hood is straightforward but not inside the car and boot where arguably extra soundproofing will work at its most efficient.

Somebody who has tips/pictures/ drawings scheme`s how to go about?

Thanks in advance!

The Superb II already comes with factory fitted sound insulation materials. There are pre-formed insulation pads inserted underneath the carpets. Is the level of insulation unsatisfactory?

Just got one of these two days ago. The sound overall is fantastic, the engine is louder than normal, but with a quality and assurance that you will be noticed for the right reasons. I was used to an S-Max 125hp. Although the hp is lower than the S-Max the weight of the Superb evens this out in terms of power. The major difference between this and the Ford is without doubt, QUALITY, VALUE & WOW FACTOR!

The engine is quite still to be honest and after a 300 kilometer drive yesterday I suspect the most noise is actually coming from the tires! These are factory fitted 16 " Continentals and they are a nuisance.

I am about to order the 2011 modell as my dealer is offering us a very good deal. The 2011 i supposed to have an additional 7 kilos of soundproofing material and the new 1.6 Cr engine which I testdrove this week and which is perfect for our needs (no towing, no citydriving, just cruising A and B roads). It is less noisy as well. I will try to get Pirelli tires this time as they have won several tests when noise is concerned.

So I have put the project on hold and wait for the 2011 modell to be delivered in november, DOH!

Hi,

Just can add my view point on that

I have Superb GreenLine 1.9 TDI

1 Continental tires originally is really loud as read other reviews about them

2 So When the tires comes to end will be changing to something else AND believing it is will fix little road noise

3 The engine sound proof done very well from the factory.

Sound proofing doors:

This what I done not complain about sound noise was, but about the speakers vibration and to fix that I done doors sound proof

Does it better now YES

1) it is better x 2 times as can listen music on higher volume

2) Does it less sound from the road - MAYBE difficult to tell now but as I remember first impression with door sound proof was really good.

PLEASE DON’T THING AFTER YOU PUT IN SOUND PROOF IT IS WILL BE QUET AS NIGHT NO IT IS LESS DECIBELS (OR SAY SAME SOUND FROM THE OUTSIDE BUT WITH LESS VOLUME OR POWER )

I agree with the noise I still have a drone as mentioned in a previous thread around 75 mph, the other thing mentioned were the tyres, I have the 18 inchers on and also came fitted with continentals, I went through 2 sets (66,500 miles) and changed to Hankook evo12 they are incredibly quieter than the continentals and also as a side issue much much cheaper.

Which continentals are fitted to the car?

I find the PC2 very quiet.

Superbs problem, at least in our country, is that road noise from the tyres. It doesn`t help much to chance tyres, because the surface on the road here is rougher than in middle-europe, for example. Many people often suggest that by changing different tyres car becomes much quieter. But there is a problem : you can`t test new tyres, you can just go and buy ones, and that`s it. :)

Skoda Man, I agree whole heartedly about the tyres and not being able to test drive them thats why forums like this are so helpful, hence me putting on 4 new Hankook boots which even on our "wonderful" roads, that was said tongue in cheek especially if you see the absolute bodge job they just made of the M25 between the M11 & A12. These tyres are seriously quieter.

We have Hankook tires on our Vivaro and they are barely noticable soundwise, they do suffer from excessive ware and a new set only lastet us 1 1/2 season (we swap to wintertires in november until april) and the tires resembled slicks after 15000 kilometer and our drivingstile is not that "sporty"

I found some tests on the net and those came up with brands like Fulda, Hankook and especially Khumo as the most quiet. Pirellis results are ambivalent at best. We just ordered the Superb etstae 1.6 CR 105 HP 2011 modell and the dealer stated that the car would be fitted with either Continental or Pirelli tires. He could not confirm this untill the car was delivered onto his doorstep.

I honestly think that the most irritating noise comes from the tires when driving the superb and agree with "Skoda Man" who says

"But there is a problem : you can`t test new tyres, you can just go and buy ones, and that`s it."

Also diffrent tires make more noise on different surfaces and under different ambient temperatures. The dealer stated that his otherwise noisy tires, performed much quieter when he drove his Superb to the south of Norway where the hightened temperatures softened up the rubber of the tires, effectively becomming 50% more quiet.

As it seems, you can`t have your cake and eat it at the same time.

I have Pirelli P7's on mine from the factory and find the noise level terrible

Where do you have the information from regarding the 7 kilo`s of extra soundproofing material? I sure hope it`s true, cause I`m waiting for my new Superb and the only issue I have is the roadnoise. Other than that it`s a great car

That info about extra sound insulation came from an internett forum where someone from The Check republic chimed in and mentioned it. Can not reproduce the link at this moment, I post it when I find it again. The official list from Skoda does not mention it though, but not so likely it would as it would indicate the pre 2011 models where too noisy:-).

Roadnoise is likely tire-related. Warm tires produce less noise than cold, 16" rims are more quiet than 17" and 18", the type and temperature of roadsurface is desiscive obviously as the tire- brand, as the state that they are in and the softness of the rubber etc.

Anyway, I willl buy and try so called eco-tires with less rolling resistance/noise the next time I have to change.

  • 3 years later...

Just fitted Michellin to 2011 Estate to replace Contis. Very significant drop in road noise and improvement in ride comfort. Not silent but very liveable, change in road surfaces is clear in change of sound but at 2/3's worn the contis were emitting a roar. The radio had to be very loud to overcome it.  I think a lot of noise is funnelled up through the gaurds which only have a plastic barrier adjacent to the unsoundproofed leading edge of the door frame.

You'll find a very noticeable difference between the old 1.9 and 1.6CR in terms of engine noise intrusion.  The CR is so much more refined that sound proofing probably won't be as much of an issue anymore.  There is more physical insulation as well in the later model.  Try to avoid the continentals if possible, I've had Michelins, Pirellis and Goodyears and the Continentals are by far the noisiest.
