Intermittent heating/ventilation fault

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'd appreciate it if any knowledgable people could give me some advice.

We have a 2 year old Roomster 1.4TDI 2 with the optional "climatic" heating/air-con system. About 4 months ago an intermittent fault with this system first became apparent. The most obvious symptom is that very occasionally the system will send very warm air into the cabin. This can happen even if the temperature is set to minimum and the air-conditioning switched on. After several minutes the system starts behaving normally again.

The car has been to the local Skoda garage for diagnosis, but they were unable to reproduce the problem and apparently no fault codes had been logged.

No doubt this will either remain an occasional annoyance or the problem will become more frequent. If the latter, hopefully it will become noticeable to the dealer while the car is still under warranty...

there is i believe a servo / valve that controls the heating , it tends to get sticky after awhile, it is a common fault i belive on the fabia mk1 and as the roomster is basically a fabia with a different backend it is like a common part between the 2 models

to get to this i belive it is a remove the glove box and it is on the right hand side

no doubt other will correct me if i an on the wrong track

I have a 2 year old Roomster and mine did the same the other day, only when I stopped in a queue of traffic.

I switched it all off and the on again and not a problem since. Guess I need to keep an eye over the next year so I can get any work like this done under warranty.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. The problem sounds similar to this one that I found by a forum search:

http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/14941-dodgy-heaterair-con/page__p__200780__hl__flap%20motors__fromsearch__1entry200780

The pollen filter was supposedly replaced at the last service, between hot events, so I don't think that can be my problem.

If its a fault with a flap motor I would expect fault codes to be logged though...

the pollen filter needing replacing usually shows its self by poor airflow through the ventilation system / hard to clear a misted windscreen, as it is just in front of the windscreen on the mk 1 it had a tendency to get blocked wth leaves on the wifes fabia vrs

the roomster / fabis mk II is a better design as it is inside the car under the glovebox

as to the flap valve control, not sure if electric or vacuum operated

I have a Fabia with manual aircon and mine does the same. I can have the temp set to cold and all of a sudden it starts to blow hot, even if aircon and blower are off. Its done this several times from new and can be stopped instantly by just rotating the temp switch one click. It then goes back to normal. I had a smart that did exactly the same, but with that I had to switch off the engine and restart... so the Skodas an improvement!

Im guessing that this is an electronic fault, as it has nothing to do with vents/flaps etc. This has also happened on our trains at work I drive and switching the temp off then on cures it.

Another possibility could be to do with the thermostatic control. the manual says it will warm the interior when the ambient temperature is lower than your setting and will cool it when the temperature is higher. I don't find mine works very well and I tend to use the control manually to warm or cool the car.

It does often blow warm air and I have to turn it down. But sometimes when it blows too cold, it needs turning up quite high before it reacts, then is often too warm.

silly question, where is the internal temp sensor?

not a case of clogged or dodgy connections?, is it under the ariel base that has water leak issues?

just a thought

Instant cure, thank you. Mine does exactly the same thing and I never thought of trying that.

I did try moving all of the heating controls including the temperature knob, but not by just one click. I'll try that next time it happens.
