Screen heater vent - plastic object dropped down it

Featured Replies

Hi, my first post and what a dumb one. Sorry! My wife has dropped a plastic car park circular chip/token down the heating vent immediately behind the glass of the windscreen. It rolled in by accident in a moment of fluster. Unlike my Octavia II the Fabia II has no mesh grille covering the vent - so down it went.

Q.1 - is there likely to be a problem with the plastic melting?

Q.2 - can it do any other damage?

Q.3 - can a dealer get access to where it might lie via the engine compartment?

Any words of clarification or reassurance would be most welcome.

Many Thanks

You could try using a small mirror, say like dentists use, to see if you can spot the offending token.

If you can, then try a bit of blutac or something similar on a thin long object like a wooden skewer or similar and try sticking the object.

may save a costly trip to the dealers! :giggle:

Just had another thought... Sometimes you can find a flexible shaft, with a pick-up claw at one end and a plunger to operate it from on the other, around 200mm long.. Automotive shops or similar may have them, for around a fiver or even market stalls/shops that sell tools. Again, the mirror will be needed!!

Perhaps make "The wife" find the object!!!

Many Thanks mrgf - the wife has phoned local dealer who reassures no melting or damage is at all likely, but rattle is of course possible! I like your suggestions, but will avoid blutac in case that also ends up down the vent! I will also try the Dyson wand with suitable tool to try and suck it up.
