Went to look at the car and it was a credit to you :-) Great condition and drove well.

Sorry - only just got back to this thread.

I try to look after my cars. This one had been quite amazing in places. For instance in nearly six years and 64,500 miles I didn't need to replace any of the wiper blades or, incredibly, any of the brake pads. (There's a thread about a year ago when I measured the residual thickness). I also only had to top up the oil level once, at around 6,000 miles and the interior seemed to wear very well. But conversely the front suspension/steering has had around £1k spent on it (new bushes, then new boots, then a new rack). Sorry about the dent in the nearside rear door - unless they've managed to get it out.

I had been holding off replacing it, pending the new vRS appearing - but a change in circumstance meant a new vRS was looking rather pricey. However I generally replace my cars when they get to about 70,000 miles, felt this one was getting a bit tired in places, and thus I decided to swap. The SE was sort of an impulse buy - I'd gone on the dealer's site to look for a Yeti...

Check if the handbrake is still a bit loose on the first part of its travel. I had a feeling that the rear callipers were getting sticky and was dreading having to pay for replacement. There is a modification whereby extra springs are fitted to ensure the handbrake fully returns which you might consider doing. The tailgate struts were also getting weak - but they're apparently a cheap replacement.

I presume they've done a yearly service and an MOT? Both were needed shortly.

Glad it's found its way back to Brisky

They have said it will have a service and mot before I collect it on saturday, and armed with the information you've provided I should be fine.

what dealer is it ?

if its not a Skoda/VAG dealer make sure they use the correct oil, as most dealers will just stick 10W40 in it

I'll be interested to hear how you get on with the vrs. I currently mulling over trading my 182 in for one (if I can find a low mileage decent priced one in a dealer)

Oh, and hi, another newbie here.

There's one I spotted at a local dealer that I thought was good value today coincidentally,

silver Fabia vRS 25,000 mls 55 plate, £6495 IIRC

@ Leeland. Bit more than I was looking at paying but that depends on what I get for the 182 (private or px). What dealer was this??

i think thats a bit overpriced. Mines a 54 reg with 85k (when purchased) with full skoda service history, 18" RS4 replica's, as well as the original wheels in perfect condition for £4,200

It has no cruise as standard (has it now) or leather but still, love it :)

Your obsession with the "Down and out" is very serious dude :) gotta love it though, cant wait till mines on coily's

Driven the car over the whole weekend and I have to say I like it. Obviously not as fun as my clio 172, but still pulls nicely and quieter/more relaxing to drive. Now we'll have to see how much fuel I can save.
