Bit of help gents please - the 'inspection' service message is still reading on my clocks after I did an oil/filter check, but no matter how hard I try I can't clear the message.

I've followed the procedure in the manual with no success, my car is a VERY basic SDI Classic (no air, no buttons on the ends of the stalk, keep-fit windows, manual mirrors etc) does this mean there's a different way of clearing the message?

The reset/clock time change stick needs to be pushed in and turned clockwise whilst holding it in that position turn the ignition on until you get this on the display "---" once you se that the settings have been reset

This might not work for the OP. It works on our 2004 TDI, but the 2000 SDI is slightly different:-

Off ignition

Press trip counter knob in and hold

Switch on and release knob - one of the service events appears in display (you can switch between service events by prodding the knob)

Turn the knob to the right (service--- appears)

Turn off ignition

Should be reset next time you turn ignition on.
