Electric Radiator Fan - constantly on

Featured Replies

Morning everyone. Blimey - I think it must be two years since I've been on this great site!

Anyway, since Friday PM, the electric cooling radiator fan on my 2006 140 TDI is staying on all the time with the ignition on, and I wondered if you guys know what it could be and if it's an easy fix, or will require a dealer visit if its a sensor of something. Also, could I kill it temporarily by removing a fuse?

As usual, any help or advise is really welcome.

Cheers... Rob

I dont want to sound alarmist....but it looks like you have the same engine as i do on my superb.....and i think my aircon was playing up a bit before i suffered the dreaded oil pump failure....but i dont think it was connected, as it settled down and switched on / off when aircon was selected...but a week later.....the oil pressure light came on and that was the end of the engine.....so whether the engine was over heating i dont know....it certainly didnt show up on the guage, and three days later the engine died.no warning nothing !! So check the oil filler cap and see if oil is dripping when u turn it upside down.....because i'm dam sure that the oil pump in my engine was slowly getting worst and that in effect reduced the oil supply to the top of the engine....if only they incorporated an oil pressure gauge...then one could have seen the pressure drop and take measures before it was too late !!....and the oil pressure switch in my opinion is more or less set to come on when its too late!!...would have been better if it came on sooner.

Thanks for the reply. The car has been into Skoda Reading three times now and the engine temp is fine so they've been scrtching their colletive heads. This evening I on the way home, I noticed that the fan was off as I sat a traffic lights and suddenly there was a clickerty-click from under the dash and hey presto... the fan came on! Quick call to the dealer and the rang bag and confirmed there are TWO relays involved with the control of the fan, so they've ordered both. Hopefully that'll sort it....
