decided to spend a bit on my vrs

Featured Replies

had my vrs fabia over a year now, got a remap and clutch done but left it at that for a few months, think im gona start again and spend a bit of cash on her!. just ordered my 312's then im gona go for RARB and strut brace. all that should do nicely. now onto lowering, read that a few of you have opted for the springs and not the dampers? is this ok? even jabba said when i have rung them that they usually recomend the springs and RARB together. thought just havin springs was a bad idea and it shortens the life of the dampers and makes the ride harsh? on a budget too so not got mega bucks to spend.

I've got Eibach springs, std dampers and a Jabba ARB. Much better setup than standard but I do expect the dampers to wear out faster. The ride is no harsher that with the standard springs and even seems to "crash" less into the pot holes

Ive got a good low mileage st of Eibach springs for sale if you are interested?

RARB on the std suspension is actually surprising fun :)

As you get the 'lean and then grip' effect :D

What's your budget on suspension changes?

Steve

I just fitted these to mine, honestly believe they are a better ride than my previous AP's.

And the price made me a happy chappy :D

They are on my car at the moment, I live right in the sticks with ridiculously bumpy roads, but these deal with it fine, not wound all the way down as some of the camber around here will obliterate my sump!

Just make sure you rape them with grease before fitment and they will last you.

Would pick these any day over the ta technix jobbys... or other budget ebay jobbys, And FK are a known brand, even though some people arent a fan...

The trouble with budget FKs is that they're not galvanised, so often there's an issue with the adjustment of them when they've been on a while, and that they seize. This then causes issues when/if they need to be removed fully.

So yes, as long as they're maintained properly with grease as mentioned, you're likely to be fine. It's just that the majority probably don't consider suspension to be a continually serviceable item :)

I would go KW/Weitec/AP in that order of preference, if I were going down the coilover route. It's the good old adage of getting what you pay for again

so springs with standard dampers is the way to go then on a budget? anyone else done this?

the ones in the ebay link are for 2007 onwards mk2 fabia

and £200 for coilovers do come along.... they will be :moon:

Anyone done this? Yep, probably 100s - easily :)

It's OK - the ride's obviously firmer and the ride isn't great IMO as the dampers aren't matched to the springs anymore. But for £150 plus fitting it's not a bad way to go, and the car looks far better as a result. I think that's probably the main benefit :)

Yes you do get what you pay for in a way, BUT, also take into account how much you want to spend, and the value of the car to you. I spent £4500 on my fabia, i wasnt going to then spend nearly 1/4 of its value again on coilovers. Esp as at the time i was changing cars every few months! I got some used eibach coilovers for £250. Now i`m going to keep the car for a few years, i might well upgrade them at some point, but i wasnt going to waste £££ on springs that wouldnt get the look i wanted. Having gone back, i`d have taken a punt on some raceland or similar if i didnt find the used set.

The link was an example of what they were....

And you say they will be arse, but all most of us want is lows, and nearly all coilovers are superior over the standard setup when it comes to better handling. Our cars aren't designed to go on trackdays, the reason the majority of us buy coilies is to do rid of the roller skate, that is the standard fabia.

I get that budget coilies aren't to everyone's taste, but as my car is only worth 6K I dont believe it is worth spending hundreds on coilovers when all I will be doing is putting it back to standard when I sell her a year or two down the line.

Also with a student lifestyle, it makes sense!
