miles to do before remapping?

Featured Replies

how many miles should i do in my fab vrs before i get it remapped???????????

I'd wait at least 5k

Plan to do mine with 5 or 6k on nothing less, although tbh it probably wont effect the car too much, but i reckon the remap would have a better effect when the engine has bedded in properly

as above wait until the engine has bedding in abit, I'm sure a good tuner would tell you this anyway.

Mine has 14k on it and will be tured in the new year.

Also it's sometimes best to wait and see if any problems arise with a new car, most come out in the first 6 months

Mine now past 18K. Can't wait till I have mine done. But when I dont know.

Good point hadn't considerd that, in that case ill hold of for the 6 - 7month mark

After 3 years/60k miles of course ;)

Mine will be touching 5k when I get it custom remapped by Jabba, will it need remapping in the future again once it has say 30k on it to account for the bedding in process as it will "potentially" be able to have another 5-10 bhp and without another custom remap later am I missing something? Or should the custom remap account for future small changes to the engine?

Depends how far you are from Crowland ;)

Any replies to my question, im a bit scared of spending

Not knowing much about remaps, I wondered if anyone knows what happens when the MOT is due? The emissions at that time will be tested against what was declared by the manufacturer when it was new, in the case of a vRS it's about 146 grams of soot per km. If you have a remap, will this figure be substantially increased, and therefore fail the MOT? If it is switchable I guess you just switch it back to the standard map. Anyone know?

47 miles

And it loves it! :)

Now done almost 9k carefree (rapid) miles... It's had 1 litre of oil and that's it.

Hehehe I am moving just down the road from Crowland in Jan :D

But of course ;)

I got mine done by jabba with about 2500 miles on it. They never mentioned it being a problem. But i did make sure it had 2000 miles on it. Definately wouldn't go straight from the showroom to have it chipped although my dealer said they could chip it for me before i picked the car up but i decieded against due to being

I'd say get it past the run-in period for sure. Warranty wise of course you wanna be 3yr/60k miles, but I definitely think leave it for 6 months for the same reason as mentioned. If summit goes wrong, you wouldn't really want it blamed on mods & have to pay for it yourself.

Unless you can afford it - in which case, go for it whenever :D

I've got another way of looking at it too - you wanna get to know the handling of the car well before changing it's characteristics. In the wet the Furby appeared to struggle a fair bit with grip with the standard engine (vRS).

The dealer-based option sounds like the safest bet IF they are prepared to provide written evidence they approved it with warranty covered by them/the chipper if anything isn't covered by the standard warranty. Somehow I doubt they'd be prepared to give that level of warranty, but it's worth asking I guess :)

I dont care anymore, I have to say you do get use to the performance after a while and it begins to feel a little slow in other cars wake. I hope JabbSport can improve things!

You won't need another remap...the ECU should adapt.

Apparently if you make mods after a remap i.e. exhaust, the ECU should also adapt. Best rule of thumb though is to get all other mods done first.

You'll get used to the extra power just as quickly and soon enough that will feel normal as well. Get used to it, theres no escape and its a very slippery slope...

Mini is in the showroom. The lease-company will just give it to me in the new year. He will be chipped before it leaves the showroom. The dealer does it and i get full waranty.

Hopefully I should see somewhere in the region of 180-185 bhp & 300 lb/ft of torque with my Green Panel Filter and Cupra Intake, but cant say for definate, I need to mess around with my Green Panel filter atm as it doesnt sit flush.

You are lucky in Holland. Is the warranty backed by the company which tunes the car for the dealer, or does the dealer take out insurance to cover any warranty problems which won't be covered by the manufacturer?

PON tunes the car, so it is officially tuned by the dealer. Well if you say we are lucky here, maybe you don
