Skoda Octavia Brake problem

Featured Replies

I have a 2004 model Skoda Octavia. It has clocked just over 100000 kms. I have replaced front brake discs on two occasions. There was no metal to metal contact to damage the discs. Is this a common problem with the Octavia?

50,000km out of a set of discs isn't unreasonable - mine is on its fourth set of discs after 100,000 miles (160,000km) Discs have to be softer on modern cars, as it's not permitted to use asbestos in the pads anymore. I've had to replace the discs and pads at the same time on all my cars up to now...

Mine is still on originals at 60,000 miles , only changed front pads once as well

When I took the discs off my 07 vRS at 58k miles they were badly lipped.

30,000 miles (50,000km) isn't bad for discs but I would say it's a bit excessive. Have you looked at changing for a different brand of disc and pad?

Thank you for your replies. They have been most helpful. You would however understand my concern in having to pay $400.00 US each time on these replacements. I have owned several cars and this is the first time I am having to replace brake discs (rotors). Have had good performance from this Skoda Octavia but this issue with the brakes is irritating. I am considering replacing the car.

vRSCarl you mention the possibility of using a different disc and pad. Could you provide further information.

Hi Dotts,

You don't have to use the OEM Discs & Pads. You can get your own from any car parts shop. For example you could use discs & Pads made by any of the following

Pagid

Bosch

Eicher

Or you could go for performance after market ones from the likes of Black Diamond, Tarox etc. Just make sure you get the right size for your car (not sure what engine size you have)

Brake pads.

Do you do alot of city driving?

Then get the cheapest pads, they go away fast but donnot hurt the disk.
