Interior additonal light?

Featured Replies

Out of interest has anybody wired up an additonal light for the interior?

The front has a map light it does the job for the front, but im after wiring up a light for the rear because it can be difficult to see in the dark when strapping up a baby in the seat, and it can be useful.

Before anybody says im not after a silly neon kit for the interior just a clear light for the rear to be installed in the centre or on the rear pillar of the car, similar to what the prestige cars have BMW/AUDIS etc, im hoping to give it the genuine look.

If anybody has done this please shed some light??

Thanks in advance!

The Elegance had lights fitted just above the rear seat grab handles, if that would help?

You'd have to see about getting them wired on though; perhaps the wiring is present above the headlining?

I have also been wondering about if this is possible. Do you know if the elegance lights are part of the grab handle unit itself or separate?

Part numbers will be useful here, I will look into them.

My Elegance didn't have any extra lights in the back? Thought this was Octavia combi only?

Either way, those units aren't part of the grab handle and if I'm not mistaken are the same units as in Galaxys and Sharans?

Saab 9000 had lots of lights in the back, a set that were indeed in the c-pillar with combined switches.. maybe a little scrapie visit?

The easiest place to fit an extra light would surely be the plastic trim that goes above the head rests on the roof side of the boot hatch? Means you can leave the lining intact.

If anybody has done this please shed some light??

:giggle:

That's an terrible pun - i'm surprised nobody else noticed...

Not sure about the Fabia, but there are a number of threads on Ocatvia owners doing this.

I got some lights like these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-MK4-GOLF-INTERIOR-LIGHTS-/180543886972?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2a0941167c

I seem to remember a thread on here suggesting that they fitted the fabia also, but can't be sure. They fit between the grab handles in the rear, but you have to be careful as (on the octavia) there's a cutout in the metal behind the headlining that's only just big enough for the light. I made a cardboard template, then used a pin and pushed it through the headining to check i had the template over the cutout before attaching the headlining with a knife (obv you can't push the pin in very far if you're not over the cut out).

I'll have a search and see if i can find one of the threads.

Hey, I took some out of a passat, just go to a scrappy and see what's about! You can normally get the looms too so all you gotta do is wire it up, the scary bit is cutting the headlining! :)

My estate had some by the B-pilars as standard. If the headlining is the same, might be worth looking for a scrapped one?
