clutch problem

Featured Replies

My dads car has just developed a strange noise. Its definatly sumthing to do with the clutch, When its out of gear and you press the clutch pedal in it makes quite a noticable nocking noise, Then when you let the clutch pedal out it sumtimes stops and sumtimes still does it but not as bad. The clutch seems to be working fine, it goes into gear fine, changes gear fine, no rattles from the gear stick with the cutch pedal in or out. The only thing is you can sumtimes feel the noise through the pedal as if sumthing is knocking within the clutch. There is also no clutch slip what so ever. The car would appear to work completely fine if it wasnt this noise from the clutch.

Any ideas people?? my mum needs it for work tomorrow morning and he needs to know if she should not drive it and get the bus! :giggle:

The car is an 07 plate volvo s40 2.0d sport.

cheers guys!!

get it to the garage before the warranty runs out.....

My dad has contacted the volvo delership today and told them about the problem, they said they are pritty sure it will be the dual mass flywheel. They can not look at it untill wednesday. They have said if it is the dual mass flywheel they recommend you change the flywheel, clutch and the clutch slave cylinder as when they try to bleed the system again it is possible it can blow the seals on the slave cylinder. They are quoting a price of £1600, and volvo are willing to knock 20% off the total bill as a goodwill gesture, which i personally think is pathetic seen as though it has always been serviced at the same volvo delership and is only a few months out of warranty with 45k miles on the clock!
