Total blackout windows

Featured Replies

Our SE has the fitted rear tinted windows as standard. As we carry dogs often, I have experimented with the Skoda sunshades, which when combined with the tints give the impression of total blackout from outside, while giving adequate vision from inside, which would suit our purposes perfectly. Does anyone know if there is a legal limit to the amount of blackout one can apply to the rear and side windows, I didn't want the long arm of the law collaring us, does there have to be any particular amount of vision from outside-in on the rear windows? I occasionally hear percentage figures thrown around, but do not know the law.

you can go as dark as you want in the rear windows as its not illegal.Vans etc dont have rear windows in some cases.

There is no legal issue to the rear of the B pillars.

Thanks to you and Fatbloke for the replies, you have put my mind at rest!

The blinds may also have another side effect.

Sound deadening.

The guy I sold my extra sound proofed octavia to had an elegance octavia with sun blinds, and it was distinctly quieter than my car.

He came from a sound engineer background.

Its a bit like having curtains in your living room instead of wooden blinds. absorbs more sound. I will definitely think about it in my SM when it arrives.

We tried to find 3rd Party blinds, but the company mentioned on one of the posts(can't remember their name) didn't list the Yeti and didn't reply to two emails we sent. So in the end we bought the Skoda ones. Our dealer fitted them for free, but in fact they are very simple to fit, just pushing clips into the window surround. Though pricey we are very pleased with them, and do give a total blackout effect, and are easily removable if you need to, and the windows of course open normally. Jessica

Just found the company that did not reply, sales@uvcar shades.co.uk

Thanks Jessica, yes I've seen these and they cater for all other Skoda models, They seem to be the same as the Skoda parts and fit in the same way. Most likely the same manufacturer supplies them to Skoda also! I'll wait a little longer for the general release :-)
