New discs & pads, are they fitted correctly?

Featured Replies

I had new front discs and pads fitted on Saturday and on close inspection today I am unsure if they are correctly fitted. I have attached 2 photos which show how they appear. The pad is sitting at a angle to the disc rather than a consistent gap throughout parallel to the disc. Is this correct? It looks wedge shaped and is tight to the disc at the inside and moves outwards as you reach the edge of the disc.

it doesnt look to bad, having said that it would be easier to see if you took a photo from the side with the wheel off.you dont have much copper slip on the back of your pad there,do they squeal at low speeds?

No squeal at all when braking, not yet anyway!

It's kinda hard to see from the photos but where the green caliper begins the pad is already at a increased angle away from the disc, I've lightened the photo a little to try make the area slightly easier to see. I am unsure if they pad should be a consistent distance from the disc from one end to the other, I'm sure the previous pads were.

That looks right to me. If you have a look at a photo of a new set of pads they are raised in the middle then taper down towards the outside edges.

Presumably the previous pads were well worn/worn out which is why you had them replaced, so it would be hard to compare those to a brand new set. I think i understand your concern, although i presume when you apply the brake, the pad is making contact with the entire disc face otherwise you would very quickly start to see water/rust marks where there was no contact. From memory, as already indicated, they look right to me.

Thanks for all the replies, from what I have read above hopefully all is OK with the new pads and discs

mINE HIT THE CENTER OF THE DISC BEFORE THE OUTER EDGE MATE. think its normal? only on light braking tho as when you brake with any force ist ok.

I've had another look tonight and now that I have I can see they are ok, I think it was the different type of pad that has been used that has made me think something was wrong.

That looks well odd. Also, paint those calipers dude!

I think I'd want to sort my alloys before I worry about my calipers lol

Fair point! Get the Wonder Wheels out on those & theyll end up like this

Wheel looks fantastic, but also looks recently refurbed or you've removed it to clean it, as the inner dish looks as clean as the outside. If you'd run the car for a few feet and applied the brake you would have got rid of that water marking on the disc, which spolis the great looking alloy a little bit IMHO. :(

I like my wheels but not so much as to remove them everytime to clean them. One of the most awkward alloys i've ever had to clean with lots of spokes and awkward corners where brake dust accumulates. :S

Pads are fine, they have a sloped edge to reduce noise.
