aircon problem

Featured Replies

When you put the aircon on the engine revs drop a little bit for second and then return to normal. My aircon dosent get cold and the engine revs no longer die so I think the aircon is not engageing. Checked all the fuses for the aircon system and there fine. Could it be somthing else?? Will the aircon still try and work if its run out of gas? Or am I being a lemon and have missed something that is really easy to fix? :smirk:

Thanks in advance

It probably needs a regas; get it done by someone competent, and they'll can tell you if there's any other work needed.

Sounds like the a/c clutch on the compressor has died as you can't hear it engaging. It will be a new expensive compressor if that is the case. Fixing the a/c will be best left to VAG specialist who can diagnose the problem with VAG.com

The aircon no longer uses a magnetic clutch. The clutch is simply a shear off device now if the compressor seizes. The aircon runs at 2% flow all the time, even when off. Activation is by a solenoid valve inside the compressor itself. Very important the system is serviced at least every 3 years, as gas and oil is lost to the tune of about 15% each year.

nothing I can fix then! Best take it to a garage and bite the bullet! Or maybe wait to after xmas as its not going to get hot and more LOL

Don't wait, or you risk wrecking the compressor. If it's low on gas, it will be low on oil as well. £45 now for a re-gas, or £900 next year for a new compressor.
