Best Photo's

Featured Replies

I'm fairly new to the world of 'photography'. I used to do 'point and shoot' photo's of friends on nights out and the obligatory holiday snaps, but recently I've started trying to be a bit more 'arty'.

Anyway, I thought I'd share some of what I've taken, and see if anybody can give me any help or advice. I currently have a fujifilm finepix z1 that I'm using. This one!

Not uploaded images before, so they might not work, but please let me know if they don't or what I've done wrong! As it says in the thread title, I'm only an amateur, so take it easy ;)

Edit x2: Apologies for the pictures now being in a different order, but they are numbered for ease of reference! I have also stated which pictures have been taken with a different camera to the one mentioned above. Thanks.

Edit: None of these photo's have been edited in photoshop or anything either, they are as they came from the camera. The one of the girl dancing in the club was taken on my Sony Ericsson Vivaz which has an 8mp camera.

I'm not an Imageshack guru but it appears that you've not picked the correct linking option from the many that they offer.

If you go to (Imageshack) 'Links to share this image' and then copy what is in the 'Direct' option then you will be able to click on the Briskoda picture.png icon and paste what you've copied into the box that has opened for you. This will then show each picture like this which is far easier than having to click on each one to open them up.

Your pictures will get automatically resized by Briskoda to 600 pixels wide but you can then click on that picture to view in the size that you uploaded at.

Overall keeping in mind the limitations of the camera that you are using I thing you are doing a pretty good job.

One thing that you should do when posting multiple images like this as asking for critique is to number each photo so people can reference specific things.

A couple things I can see are the photo of the birds in flight at sunset would look much better with the horizon straightened (easy to do with software). I love the expression on the dog in the first dog photo. The boat photo after the dog shots (see what I mean about numbering) doesn't work for me. The Boat should be in focus not the foreground foliage. If you wanted the foliage as the feature the boat should not be in the photo.

Thanks for the tips!

Pictures are now numbered, although regretabley they are now in a different order, grr! Now I look at the picture with the boat I understand what you mean - as you can see in picture 2, I have been practising with the macro mode on my camera, and getting focused foregrounds and blurred backgrounds. Sometimes the effect is good, but I think it requires a prettier foregorund! I think as it was raining when I took the picture, I was in quite a sombre mood, which may well be reflected in the picture!!

Truth be told, I have never used photo shop or anything similar, and I don't think I can get my head round it, tried doing a couple of things at work with it, to no avail...!

You don't need Photoshop unless you already have a Ferrari and a Bentley and a Veyron. There is plenty of inexpensive or even free software that will allow you to do what you need to do with basic adjustments, cropping, rotation, etc.

Try Photoscape it's free and allows you a bit of fun with your images.

Of course I assume that if you get the bug photography can become very expensive and very time consuming but imo a great hobby.

Actually, the reason I've become so involved with it recently is because it's so cheap!! It depends if you want to upgrade your equipment, that's where it becomes expensive. As it is for me at the minute, it costs me nothing except for diesel, which being a full time volunteer is about my limits. I'd really like a bridge camera, but can't really afford it just yet.
