LEDs for DRLs

Featured Replies

MTEC 382 Silver style super white xenon filled P21W.

I tried LEDs but as they were not Canbus compatible, didn't light up. I wanted a bulb to give a sharper whiter light in preference to the yellow and quite disappointing originals. I searched for xenon filled bulbs and found 2 from MTEC. One that was blue when not illuminated that I didn't really like the look of, although cheaper to buy and probably delivering more light, and the silver/chrome finish ones that I bought. Here is the result:

Looking good, where did you get them? Still not sure about the DRLs. I used to go nuts about people with fogs on during the day and every time I catch a glimpse of our car in a shop window I think we look the same! Your mod does make them look more like proper DRLs, think I may be a follower!

Still think they are a good safety feature, does make the car a lot more visible.

Havibg moved from the 'old' Fab 2 I am seriously impressed with the new lights. Old ones were lethal.

are these them ? My link

or these

You might get stopped by Mr Plod for having fog lights on with them me thinks.

They are the second pair. In bright daylight they give a bluish white light that sometimes appears to have an odd tint but the way they pick up off the reflector makes them look like they are clearly not fog lights. I will post another picture in bright daylight later. I think the blue coated ones would probably give a cleaner light but I preferred the discrete look of the silver ones for when they are turned off rather than boy racer blue bulbs.

There daytime lights not fog lights

Further pics. They stand out better in the flesh, the contrast against a white car isn't so good on a photograph

Just added them myself. They do look cool from a distance

I think what he means is that making the DRL's a lot brighter will make them look like foglights. Could get rather tiresome having to explain to Plod every week. I keep getting flashed by people thinking the standard DRL's are fogs :S

I like your way of thinking as this is something i will be looking to do when my Superb arrives.

But for me those are both too bright and blue for what i am looking for, i am after the bright white that the LED's give off but no so bright that they can be confused with being fog lights.

There not that bright (infact possibly less bright that the oem during daylight hours) obviously at night the dip beams will be on and the drl are off.

Save your money, the MTEC bulbs are without exception the worst bulbs I have ever bought, they are NOT white but have a very blue tint in them, several others have also had them melt the bulb holder¬

Thanks for the advise, can anyone suggest me for which bulbs should i go to, i want to get rid of these old ones, i do not mind if they are other colour.

Thanks

I think its quite a good, simple, mod, that makes it look more like conventional DRL's (provided they arn't too bright) , I dont like the dim yellowish standard running lights these models come with (and alot of the VW's too)

Can you/anyone suggest me a good bulb instead of the old DRL bulbs(Please paste links if possible), if i put in LED i have read that i should put in some resistor and stuff so i do not want to end up loosing my car warranty so instead if there are any other standard bulb which i can just replace this would be helfull, i do not mind if they are blue or any other colour.

Regards

Santosh

I have this type of bulb fitted these fit the MKII Superb and Octavia, so I assume will fit the Fabia as well - but check first!

Providing you buy CANBUS bulbs you will not need extra resistors as they are already built into them.

Get the bulb type of P21W or 1156

BA9S cannot be fitted (it is smaller then P21W)

Thanks mate.
