bit of an issue after a rebuild

Featured Replies

Hi all.

A mate of mine who's a member on briskoda is having a bit of an issue following his engine rebuild.

I'll give you the story so far...

12 weeks ago his turbo blew... standard kkk turbo, fmic and a remap so not surprising from what i've read on here.

11 weeks ago the car was transported to a garage for investigation and repair.

Identified the compressor wheel had exploded and shot shrapnel throughout the engine

new parts ordered, hybrid garret turbo, new pistons rings etc.

almost a month ago everything had arrived and the engine was rebuilt.

moment of truth..

upon starting the car all seemed well untill the throttle was blipped and its been like this ever since

the mechanic has done various things to try and figure this out.

I do have audio on its own if anyone wants a listen.

If any of you guys who know can offer any ideas they would be most appretiated.

Very strange...All fluid levels okay?

everything appears to be as it should

That sounds like one of the hydraulic tappets hasnt filled properly.

It's the same sound that the early vauxhall cavaliers & novas used to get when the same thing happened.

Could be crap in one of the oil lines.

that was a first thought, but dismissed it because of all that smoke

Scary thought but are you sure the cam is timed correctly.

I heard that sound once on a peugeot diesel after a cam belt change - they had the cam out one tooth - it smoked heavily too.

its white smoke which means water...... what condition is the head in? cracked a water way?

Not related but Piston rings?

its possible. i'll pass it on.

Cant see it being the rings as they were renewed

have you got a list of what was renewed?

timing belt

head gasket

piston rings

turbo

injector seals

injector loom

oil pump

water pump

I would be checking if the mechanic used the correct thickness of head gasket.

IIRC - you need to measure the projection of the pistons from the bore at TDC and select a head gasket based on that measurement.

sounds expensive....

maybe try a better mechanic

Guessed that with the highlighted :giggle: (please dont take offense to that)

Id say get him to check the timing first. cos if it is a tooth of that could be doing more damage than good

i might be wrong but etka only listed one part no for head gasket

what condition were the bores in?

The timing out, either that or it has a stuck valve.

  • Author

as far as im aware the bores looked fine, in all fairness the pistons looked ok ish.

no offence taken mr sunroof.

thanks for the replies guys, and am pleased no one mentioned injectors.

Could be the injectors.

thanks for the input guys.

has Mr Mechnic sorted it yet?

mr mechnic has gave in to his mistake and ordered brand new engine :)
