Any 1.4 TDI Fabia Owners?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm looking into purchasing a Fabia 2 Estate 1.4TDI that I have spotted at my local skoda dealer, it's a 08 Plate in silver.

I'm just wondering what are people's opinions on the 1.4 I'm not bothered about performance as I'm not planning on modding the car at all as I just want something that goes from a-b for myself and the wife (mainly the wife will be driving) I've ruled out the hatch as coming from a Ford C-Max I'm wanting a estate which will last a few years at least 3-4.

I'm also thinking about buying 1.4 tdi furby 2 so i'd be interested in honest opinions of the engine. My wife also will be mostly driving it, and we're getting it because she finds our present octy 1.9tdi a bit big to handle.

HI,

i dont own one but i have just picked one up as a hire car,

if your not looking for speed or handling this is the car for you (im only saying this because i drive a mk1 fabia vrs ),

it is smooth to drive and has 4 cup holders ! returning 50mpg easy !

cant really say much more

the engine is noisy , sound like a 3 cylinder ? tick over is really lumpy and its only done 1k, worse than my vrs with 98k on the clock.

sorry just cant find anything to get excited about,

o you can adjust the MID's on the stereo !!! cant do that on the vrs

Ok boys, your in the right place! I have an 08 plate, level 2, 1.4TDI 80hp 1422cc diesel estate. I bought it new. I must tell you it's brilliant. And I will say I've become totally biased about how good they are, but will add that I'm not really a car person these days, odd you may think. But I'm a biker. My wife and I just need a car that doesn't give any trouble and goes from A-B without fuss, so if I say the Skoda 1.4TDI is good, IT'S GOOD! I'm also ex-tech from a few years back, and I still know when I see a good car.

My car has been faultless apart from a lower 'A' pillar seal coming adrift. This was only cosmetic and something that was easily fixed at service. The engines are real gems, not the quietest at tickover but fine when on the move and not much different to any petrol car at cruising speeds. The engines get much smoother, more powerful and quieter as the miles go on. These PD engines are totally bullet proof and huge fun to drive with a real kick in the pants when you put your foot down...you'll be suprised! It outperforms most petrol 2ltr engines easily. There's loads of power and they put out more power than VW's own 2.0 Ltr petrol 115bhp unit in terms of torque. The economy is great as others will tell you. I can get around 68-70mpg easily and I mean easily on any sort of run. If you don't go over 65 mph it'll do 74mpg! Around town and urban driving it returns between 54-59mpg all the time only dropping to 50mpg when driven in town continuously in winter with lights, rear screen demister and blower on etc. Space in the estate is very very good and you won't quite believe it until you start to use one. I've had everything including the kitchen sink in mine and one third of a ton of bathroom tiles. It did it easily. Servicing costs at my Skoda dealer are better than the local independent VAG specialists I found, by quite a bit. You wont' go wrong...get one!

Estate man - Many thanks, I think you have sold me the 1.4TDI, I used to be a vRS Owner and loved the diesel performance ane economy then i went and bought a Ford to cut a long story short we had a major issue with our Ford cutting out at 60MPH on the M6!! and my confidence in the car has drained to the fact that I want to sell the car and I never had any major problems with my vRS, so I'm looking at Skoda again, performance is not on my list just something to pootle about in as our mileage is going to be shy of 10000 a year. I did buy my C-max for bikes but I've only had them in once but still require a estate car to carry stuff i from time to time.

What is the spec i the Fabia two like?

Fabia 2 has all the bits you need but the 3 adds some extra toys that is rather nice.

The 1.4TDi engine is nice. It's not the fastest thing in the world but it has enough torque to pull you along nicely, and the fuel economy is nice.

the engine is noisy , sound like a 3 cylinder ? tick over is really lumpy and its only done 1k, worse than my vrs with 98k on the clock.

It sounds like a 3 cylinder probably due to the fact that it only has 3 cylinders! :p

I once had as a hire car a 1.2 3 cylinder petrol Mk1 Fabia and loved the sound it made, especially when you reved it. I'd love someone to build a 1.4 3 cylinder TSI engine. You would get the great sound of a V6, with the power to boot. :DB)

I would prefer a 3 but am not bothered about extra goodies as such, I'm really just after a car to go from a-b nowadays, there was a time when I would go for the better specced models, but just seeing this car in the pics it looks quite nice in silver with the black roof rails, nowadays it will be the wife driving to and from work and I would use it in the evenings or weekend.

I think the 3 cyl 1.2 12v sounds like half a Porsche engine.

tut tut thats why i put a question mark , i dont know much about the fabia 2 ,

I think the 3 cyl 1.2 12v sounds like half a Porsche engine.

Yep, a Flat or V6. I may be a bit biased as I think the best sounding engine is the Austin Rover V64V (3.0l or 3.5l V6). B)

Best sounding engine I've ever experienced....

Either Jensen Interceptor or McLaren SLR.

Driven the Fabia 1.4 TDI a number of times, might not be the most modern of motors but I liked it and daft as it my sound I preferred it to the 1.9 TDI 105.

Just had a quick look round at the used market and I'm supprised by how differant pricing is from one dealer to another but in general you can pick up a Fabia II level 3 for the same or just a little more money than a level 2 even from the same dealer group with similar miles and condition. Therefore if it were me I'd try and find a nice level 3

I tried both 1.4 and 1.9 when going from MK1 to MK2 fabia estate.I found the only real difference was the agricultural sound of the engine just couldn't get my head round it, obviously lacking slightly when it comes to a safe overtake manouvere, either way a good engine, just depends on which way you want to jump.

Not blowing my own trumpet here  (Ok I am) but I have a nice 3 estate for sale in 1.9 guise.See add in classifieds or clicky link below.

What is the spec i the Fabia two like?

As has been mentioned, the spec in the level 2 is good. It has aircon and mostly all the electrical devices you expect on a modern car including electrically operated and heated mirrors, electric windows, follow you home lights, a nice dash and instrument display with all sorts of computerised gismos, trip computer etc, etc. Radia/CD player with MP3 interface. And hydraulic up and down seats for driver and front seat passanger, glove box that keeps things cool (from the aircon), alarm and immobiliser and the list goes on, and on. If you can get the level 3 for about the same money or just a bit more it might be worth it. Overall, just a very good car. Take the 1.4TDI out for a trial spin and then take the 1.9TDI. Many people find the 1.4TDI more than enough for performance. Top speed on the estate is 109mph. The hatch is a bit slower. I can comfortably cruise at 80mph and the engine is just ticking over. Good luck and do let us all know how you are getting on with your search.

Well we had a look last night looked at a roomster and a fabia estate 1.4 TDI,, loved the colour of the roomster but needless to say I could not think I could live with it, it's just the shape, so we went back to the estate, and that won, the fact the dealer slashed £500 of the internet price that day and gave me near enough what I wanted for my current car, plus the cheap tax and even cheaper finance than what I pay the now sealed the deal, never got the chance to drive it as it was near enough closing time, so this time next week I will be the owner of a Brilliant Silver 08 Fabia 2 Estate 1.4TDI.

I've lost a couple of things like front fogs and parking sensors and stereo controls but it's things I can live with and it's only covered 9100miles from new.

Skodaboy...well pleased for you. You will not be disappointed. At 9,100 miles it's not actually fully bedded in yet...yes really! The engine will just keep getting better and better, in terms of...more power, more economy and becoming even quieter the more you drive it. Sounds like the deal you got was a very good one.

Please keep posting to tell us all how you are getting on with it.

Well picked the car up last night, very good sales process even sitting for 45 minutes waiting on the salesman coming back from a test drive.

Having never driven the car before until yesterday and being used to quieter diesels the noise from it gave me a shock but aside from that very impressed only done about 10 miles in it but it's a cracking car, going to give it a longer run at the weekend but very impressed with it, there is a few scratches on it but you get what you pay for, quality is good and the gearbox is excellent, cannot see myself getting rid of this car for a few years.

My only concern is the seatbelt on the drivers side, seems twisted a bit and does not seem to reel back for some reason? Any ideas what this might be?

Yeah, it's twisted

Take it back ! Same with the scratches, should've got them to fix as part of the deal matey.

Good thing about the skoda dealer is that the salesman said to contact him if there was any problems with the car then to contact him direct, the seatbelt is my main concern but other than that I can't complain for a 9000 mile car that is two years old, the bonus being the car only done 2000 miles in a year and the other year it was a fleet car.
