Limp Mode

Featured Replies

Morning all. Last night my VRS unexpectedly went into what I suspect was Limp mode (felt like an N/A car but could just hear the turbo) Once I got home I switched it off and checked for any obvious loose pipes and could see nothing. Restarted car and went for a drive and all was well for about 5 minutes ant then Limp Mode again. This morning the other half took car to work and was OK again. Weird! I've been having problems with fluctuating boost ever since owning the car (a year) and it was suggested by some on this forum that I might have a bad remap (whilst in the previous owners hands) Would this back this up? The map is going "bad"? Can I get a Skoda dealer to do an ECU flash to put it back to factory? I realise that I need to check all the main boost hoses aswell as this sounds like a 17705 fault. (not checked on VAG COM yet)

Cheers, Dan

As you've suggested, check for the fault code first and check all the hoses, the remap is pretty much the last resort once you've checked everything else. For it to go into limp mode it is usually quite an obvious failure i.e. a big leak in one of the larger hoses, if it's just a little leak 9 times out of 10 it will throw a 17705 fault code but the car will still drive pretty much normally.

I'm not sure that a Skoda dealer can put a standard map back on it, you might have to go to your nearest remapper and chuck them a drink to stick a standard map back on.

I may as well get a Revo remap if I have to do it that way  One other thing I forgot to mention was oil level. It was half way on the dipstick so topped it up this morning. Would low oil put it in to limp mode?

If the map had a glitch I would have expected the problem to have been there from day one. Never heard of a map going bad. Most likely cause is a boost or vacuum leak. The 17705 code can be a real nightmare to solve, but there's plenty of info on the many VAG forums.
