Quick question, double locking via remote

Featured Replies

More often then I should, I will lock the car instinctively then walk 100m and lock it again just to make sure i did lock it the first time (esp if im with other people & mind is elsewhere). By doing this (locking car, then relocking it 10 secs later) am I disabling the dead locks & interior alarm?

Cheers :)

Ive been led to believe doing this double lock on my fabia indeed renders the sensors etc useless.

Yes you are, you could find a local member with VCDS to enable the alarm chirps so you know it has locked.

Yep, I would suggest the alarm chirp option is activated. Just a shame that it's not as loud as it is on the Fabia :)

I think a 10 sec delay between pressing the lock button would be OK. It's more of a 'double-click' in quick succession that disables interior monitoring and the deadlocks. Perhaps upto a 3sec gap between presses?

Or you can do it yourself if you've got maxidot.

Yup, get the alarm chirp turned on.

Don't think an 06 has this in the maxidot menu - mine doesn't anyway.

Be careful, IIRC just because you get the chirp doesn't mean it's lock eg if a door left slightly open a chirp will sound but the locks will open back up. It's more an acknowlegment of pressing the button as opposed to confirmation of being locked.

The chirp can't be enabled via MaxiDot to my knowledge. Unless that's a very new addition.

Even when I enabled it on both the Octy2s I've owned, that option doesn't appear on the menu.

Are you sure?....... on both my Superb and SWMBO's Golf if you press the remote with a door or boot open nothing happens, but when the door or boot is closed the car then locks and the chirp sounds.

I was fairly sure that was the case too Gizmo, but wasn't sure enough to post to that effect.

Will test the theory out later

If a door is open, when i pres the lock on remote, the chirp will not sound, telling me go back and shut em.

The indicators shouldnt flash either IIRC.

Correct, as i said "nothing happens"

Interesting, I'll check mine again (it's been a while)

Just checked mine,

Drivers Door open - No Chirp & No Indicator

All other 3 doors open one at a time - Chirp & No Indicator (indicator flashes when closed)......this is what I was thinking when mentioned above, it's been a while. But if as door wasn't fully closed it would still chirp.

Didn't check bootlid or bonnet.

Have you tried other doors apart from Drivers door?

My 2010 Octavia2 Scout, 1 Chirp for close. No Chirps if any door is left open ,close the open door and car locks with 1 Chirp.
