Should I have the xenons?

Featured Replies

Just had what I think is a very good quote for a new 2.0 VRS petrol. 18000 with following extras

Maxidot

Leather

Full size spare

Met.Paint

Rear Parking sensors

Curtain Airbags and

Xenons

With the 0% finance and no vat I'm very tempted but are the xenons worth the extra dosh?

Yes! Once you've had them, you'll never go back.

its the most expensive option i have...

.. and yes, i'm happy i ticked the box.

They are certainly better than the standard halogens and the bendy feature works well too, but they are only Xenons on dipped beam.

To your spec, I'd add heated seats, a definite bonus with leather.

Have you been copying my order, that is exactly the same as my spec.... well think i added the auto wipers too.

I had xenons as having had two cars with them i would never go back....

What colour you going for?

Yes! Bendy xexons are amazing

Thanks for the replies.I was thinking of silver but just can't make up my mind.Any ideas?

silver is nice - my second choice.

white is 400 quid cheaper

Now on my third car with Xenons - and I would never go back. I even walked away from really good cars because I couldnt spec Xenons on them. From a safety point of view they are worth as much as ABS in the dark - and you wouldnt buy a new car without ABS would you (even if you could).

Don't forget that you can adjust your headlights in seconds for foreign driving with maxidot/xenons.

I had the same problem with choosing colour...... ordered anthracite but in the end i caved in and changed to blue.

my short list was white, blue and anthracite

Xenon's are amazing, I really notice the difference when driving non xenon equipped cars in work. Dont forget the light assist/auto wipers/ auto dimming mirror...its only £150 option and well worth it, it should be sold as part of the xenon pack if u ask me!

Surely the benefit of Xenons will depend on what driving you do. I do not do much night time driving and what I do do is mainly on street lit roads so I never had the xenons. Seemed an expensive option for the little I would use them. I have never had an issue with the standard lights to be honest with good main and full beam. I just changed the bulbs to some nightbreakers and they are even better now.

Are you going for a hatch or combi?

It's the hatch. Thanks again for the useful answers.

They're the most useful thing I've ever had on a car........ well, second to cruise control of course !

Halogens keep getting better, but given the choice I'd still rather have the xenons !

They are worth it if you venture out of town, astounding amount of light very evenly spread makes driving at speeds up to 60 or perhaps more quite safe on dipped beam and when you do have to turn off the main beam (halogen) it doesnt feel like someone turned off all the lights.

My first car with Xenon's and wouldn't go back.

Go for the light assist and heated seats too - i'd never have another car without them either!

If you have never had xenon's before and don't do a great deal of driving in the dark then i would probably give them a miss.

HOWEVER, once you have had them you will never go back as their is a huge difference .

I love my Xenons. Wouldn't want to have a car with halogens now.

I had xenons on my last car, but to save £££s I didn't specify them for the vRS. Living in the country I do miss the xenons, but I have been very impressed with the standard halogens - probably the best I've had in a car.

Amonite, go for Silver! Looks amazing, especially once waxed, matches the vRS wheels perfectly, and gives a classy look to the car!

Loving mine. Can't stop looking out of the window at it!

Also a big fan of Xenons. Had them on my last three cars and would never have another without them.

Just back from 1400 miles in France. The 'tourist' mode function through maxidot is very clever & saves mucking around with patches on the lights, or having to get the dealer to change them over.

Dunc

+1 for Xenons from me, based on my experience with 2 previous cars (non Skoda). I've specified them for my Scout, currently winging its way down the English Channel en route to Auckland. That said, I have read a few negative comments on this forum stating the dipped beam light cut off is very severe with the Xenons, but they seem to be heavily outweighed by the positive comments about them, even though they are an expensive option.

You could defray the cost by choosing white as your colour. My dealer has a new white VRS in stock at the moment and it's a really nice white, not at all harsh and I thought it looked great, even though I'm not a fan of white cars usually.

Same here ;-) Xenons are expensive to buy and expensive to run once they break down (which they do regularly, if you consider how often you see Xenon cars with different colors in their Xenons) and on the other hand I am of the opinion the brightness is in no way that much better than Halogens.... So in my view the only thing that remains are the flash looks in the mirror....and for that it's definitely too much money.
