Scratch removal! Advice please.

Featured Replies

Have found three fine parallel scratches on driver's door below mirror. Longest one about 6".

Probably the neighbour carrying a bag with zips on it. Didn't see it happen, but they weren't there 24hrs ago and the car hasn't moved!

Have tried two thick coats of Zymol, and polished off. Very slight improvement, but scratches still very visible.

Gutted, as car only 5 weeks old and was previously unmarked apart from three very small stone chips on the lower plastic section at the front (which I have carefully & successfully touched up).

Any advice would be much appreciated!

This needs moving to Car Care really, as it's not Octy II specific and you'll get more replies probably :)

But wax isn't really the answer - that's only the final step in the process. What you would need to try is a couple of stages of polish, to try and 'fill in' the scratch. I'd then add a layer of sealant, with wax as the last step. The polishing is best done by machine, but people have had good results with Meg's Scratch-X or perhaps AG Super Resin Polish.

Wax will not get any scratches out, you need to use a good quality polish like Auto glym or Poorboy scratch remover. Meguires does a compound called scratch x in 3 different types fine , medium, course.

If they are fine scratches and you can't feel them with your fingernail it will be quite an easy job to do, simple apply using a clean polishing cloth until scratch is removed, then buff off, don't forget to apply a decent wax afterward to protect you finish.

Thanks Steve & Larry!

15 mins with Scratch-X and 5 mins with Zymol wax and the door seems as good as new!

Seriously impressed with the Scratch-X!

I appreciate that this should probably have been in Car Care (maybe a moderator could move this?), but if you've light scratching, give Scratch-X a go followed by wax & you will be amazed at the results

Thanks again guys. Happy once again!

Dunc.

Glad you got this sorted

Just wanted to add I've also had good results removing very slight scratches with Megs Scratch-X after recommendations here.

Good stuff

Glad you're sorted.

Steve

Moved.

Probably worth using AG SRP after the Scratch X then the wax, you should get a really good finish with that then. HTH
