Rattle from Sunroof

Featured Replies

Hi,

My Octy 1.9 TDi Elegance is due its 20000 mile service on 5th of January. I have noticed a rattle coming from the sunroof and intend to get the dealer (West End Garage at Broxburn) to look at it.

Has anybody else had any such problems and if so what was the cure??

Regards

Hey ... I just got my Octy from them :)

Is it from the sunroof itself or the light/sunroof control panel ?

If the latter then I had an annoying rattle right from day one (on a brand new car) :(

So rather than waste a week while the garage tried to find the problem I did my usual trick and stripped the panel down ...

There are 2 areas that could be the problem

1/ is the panel itself so to make it fit that little bit tighter I put a layer of masking tape along the metal edges of the hole.

2/ the manual sunroof crank ( which is a glorified allen key ). Just to make sure this couldn't rattle I wrapped it with electrical tape in strategic places to take up the bit of play it had when it was in its bracket ( if you can call it that ... it is a bit pathetic really )

These appear to have stopped the rattles that I had in this area. :)

Now to fix the squeaks in the instrument cluster and the drivers door card

Had a rattle that thought was coming from the sunroof - but was actually coming from the centre mini sun-visor - just in front of the sunroof controls. Took me ages to find this out! Removed it and refitted with a piece of foam as well to stop rattle.
