Repairer for Minor Wheeel Damage

Featured Replies

Scuffed an alloy wheel on the Skoda while on holiday. Middle of a ‘spoke’ and not near the tyre.

Any mobile repairers recommended in the Chesterfield/Buxton area? I would not think the tyre need to come off.

OK, so I'm the only person here to have caused wheel damage. Slapped wrist. The sites I've found so far are wanting to do a super- duper job involving wheel and tyre removal. I was thinking more like Dents Away etc visiting my home or work.

I believe most of the mobile paint repairers (like chipsaway) do wheel paint repairs as well (assuming not too much damage). So give a few local ones a call and see what they can do. The wheel/tyre off will be a more complete repair but if the damage is only slight then a mobile repair should be sufficient.

Hi i can say that chips away do a great job, they spray the whole wheel, they repair the damage mask off the tyre etc, my last expedition into the curb cost me £45 cash. The repair was undetectable and good quality, however beware once repaired the curbs seem to be drawn to the repair. We live near a narrow toll bridge and when you meet a Double Decker bus there you have a choice; loose a door mirror or scrape the alloys cos the bus ain't stopping!!

Chips Away say they can not do my Pallas wheel because the metallic paint flakes are 'too coarse' to match up.Disappointing. Getting the more expensive all singing Prestige Wheels in as the only other option.

Chips away repaired similar damage to the middle of one of the spokes and very near to the tyre bead of my Pallas wheel £35.00 invisible repair. The guy came out with his colour cards and matched it to the wheel.

Hmm. Strange. Wish I'd known that when the Chipsaway guy turned the job down. He came from Macclesfield btw.

Prestige are expensive and I've heard not all that amazing.

Prestige Wheels seem to have a good job; but £65 is a bit expensive IMHO for a couple of localised scrapes.

Advised to leave it for a week before polishing or washing.

He was also surprised that Chips Away turned the job down due to alleged paint matching difficulties on the Pallas wheel.

Jeeeez. £65 for a simple silver OEM monoblock 17"!!! I assume that was inc tyre removal, strip / blast, powdercoat, refit tyre and balance?

That's the problem with the Chips Away franchise. Inconsistency.

Some are far, far better than others. We had a really good guy locally a few years ago, but the franchise has now changed hands.

I did ask before hand for recommendations and Chips Away was the only one that came up. No, just a simple repaint and lacquer of the outside with tyre in place.

Seems to be a lack of any positive experience of such repairs on the forum?

Don't use Paint Wizard in Leicester, the muppet caused 7k worth of damage to my fathers SL55 because they didn't do the wheel nuts up tightly despite being asked if they had. He was lucky not to be killed with the wheel coming off on the A46. The court case is on going....

I would always be in favour of a complete repair, tyre removed etc - but that's just me :)

I've just been recommended to try these chaps, as I'm after a full refurb of a set. In Bury: http://www.alloywheelsrefurbished.com/

Also, the Wheel Specialist in Manchester (near Piccadilly Station) offer a drop-in service and list touch-ups:

I had a terrific job done on my last Octavia (free to me but apparently £38 per wheel) on 3 wheels on my last car that were messed up during a tyre change. (Yes, they bu**ered up 3 out of 4 wheels and thought I wouldn't notice!!)

The manager held his hand up (and almost punched his young Eastern European fitter with it) and got a mobile down from Bromley Kent, (too far for OPs job I'm afraid). They gave me a car for the day and when I got back I was well satisfied - and I'm not that easily satisfied!!

The repairer was Damian Van Aswegen, of Automotive Repair Systems.
