Rear bumper removal

Featured Replies

Well I seem to have cured most fault except have the seat belt light illuminated, initially when starting up air bag fault lit & then goes out & just the reversing sensors but a diagnostic check says that is the RHS 1 faulty, where would the cheapest place to get 1 of those? I was impressed with this diagnostic "thingy" so had a look on Ebay prices from £10 to £22 for the cable but different numbers so I will have to try & find a forum about those Anyway at the moment I am a" happy bunny"

Oh nearly forgot how do remove the bumper ect to get at the sensors?

There's no cheap place to find the sensors I'm afraid, they do pop up occasionally on eBay but the last few I watched fetched close to retail so it may be worth trying to blag a discount at the dealer.

They are unique to the Superb and not found on another car in the VAG range so don't bother looking at Passats and A6s. The Superb shares the same part # in all sensors (some cars have inner and outers)

Good news is that you don't need to remove the bumper to get at the sensors, you can get your hand up behind the bumper skin and release them from their carriers.

Give them a squirt of WD40 (or similar) and fiddle around at the clips, in the carrier, that hold the sensor (top and bottom) and it will wiggle free. The offside middle requires one screw removing from underneath the bumper skin so yo ucan get your hand in.

Take your time with the first one to get the technique and you'll have them out in no time.

  • 2 weeks later...

there is a post on here somewhere that I found really useful, cos it contained photos of the sensors - showing the clips that hold them in place. Really handy as you'll be removing blind, by feel alone...

Think they were positioned at top and bottom and need pulling outwards slightly.

I had no need to remove any bolts for any of them - other than the O/S corner, for which you need to remove the large plastic moulding (couple of torx and one bolt I think)

cheers

to remove the rear bumper remove the big black screws in the boot first then there are two more of these under the bumper accessed by jacking the car up next unfornately you will have to remove the mudflaps (if fitted) and the screws in black splash guard attached to the bumper in the wheel arch. ( I too have fell foul of the rear parking sensor problem that is all too common on the superb and if you want to sort the problem out long term its safer to fit an after market kit and just remove the original kit Its much cheaper and not a huge job about 90 minutes-- having done this myself it solves the problem completely where as with the skoda sensors at €130 a pop and they dont last its an expensive pain that will never go away)

I have also considered an aftermarket kit, has anybody managed to source one that fits and mounts into the original holes ?

There are bumper skin fixings under the rear lights - which have to come out in order to access them.
