Is the Fabia big enough for a family?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm going to be selling my Octavia vRS & due to future plans I'm wanting something more economical & with cheaper running costs.

I am looking at the Fabia vRS, still sporty looking with alot cheaper running costs & seen one I quite like In the 'cars for sale' section. Now Is there any owners of the Fabia that use It as an everyday family car with two young children?? My two are 5 & 1 yrears of age & I'm wondering If It will be big enough?

I've already planned to buy a roof box for If we ever went away In It for holidays ect & I've asked Tisha If she'd kindly bring her Fabia around for me to try the pram In :)

your views would be kindly appreciated:thumbup:

Oz.

It can be used by a growing family. We had one up for nearly 4 years and sold it when our boys were 2 & 4 yr old, it is a little cramped though and wouldn't want todo any long runs in it with them until they were in booster seats but otherwise it is a good choice.

You may get away with your little 'un being 1 but when we were looking the stumbling block for us was fitting a pram in with everything that goes with a baby (that's why we went for the Octy).

If i were you go to your local dealer with the normal boot full you take out with you and then transfer everything over,to see how much space is left.

I have just got bought a Fabia VRS, As i have just been married and planning a family, I think they are an ideal little family car 5 doors and a big boot, And really cheap to run, and as you said looks sporty aswell. :)

I did do, but they hadn't got any In apart from the new Fabia vRS...very nice Indeed.

I was hoping for a Fabia as a courtesy car yesterday when I took my Octavia to be checked over, but I ended up with an Honda Jazz :dull:

The eldest Is In a booster seat & has religated my wife to being the back seat driver :giggle:

Got a 7, 9 and 19 year old. Bit tight with everyone in, but plenty of room if there's 4 of us.

Only got the one kid, but if you have a one year old, a mclaren buggy easy fits in the boot of a Fabia :)

I bought an Octavia due to having the wee one, but it wasnt needed !

i think you will be fine for everyday running around, and when youve got a roof box i reckon you should have plenty of room for your hol's etc, well untill they get a few years older at least!

I would agree the Fabia can feel a little cramped, but thats with any small car. The boot is very reasonable I can get a pram in along with shopping ontop of it.

3 kids in the back would seat comfortably where no babyseats/boosters are used, but if you have a baby theres only space for one person in the back comfortably.

The let down are the seats because of the colour, but if your not bothered about cleaning then you have some scrubbing to do.

Its probably one of the best small cars on the market considering space, fuel consumption, insurance and safe overtaking with the torque available is comparble to cars with the bigger price tags.

Oggy - would you not just consider a TDI Octy? That way you keep the same size of car, and you're just changing to coal power then :D

just my 2p's worth...I've got used to the furby with 2 kids last 18 months.

A full size pram can fit in the boot but not loads of room for much else,a buggy push chair much easier,..2 childs car seats go in the back easy but this resticts a 3rd person in between them....booster seats use less space.

A family of 4 can travel in comfort ,you just cant pack the kitchen sink etc in the boot..although i have no probs doing a big shop and getting bags in the boot

Will be easier when kids out of there seats obviously.

Even for me with the driver's seat set to suit my short legs there isn't a large distance between the backrest and the rear seats. I think you might get kicked in the back... :S

I did think of It Steve, but driving an Octavia vRS with how mine looks & to go to a TDI with basic styling & trim would not be fun & I'd end up regretting It. At least with a Fabia vRS It still maintains a sporty look & trim ;)

Tisha has come round to let me drive her Fabia vRS & try the pram In.

I quite enjoyed driving It. It was quite nippy. I don't want to compare It to my Octavia as I've spent £k's on that.

I had my oldest daughter on her booster seat In the rear & she had plenty of leg room, but when It came to the pram & It wouldn't lay flat, but would on Its side If I removed the parcel shelf.

Are you planning on more kids Oggy? As if LO is 1 - Owen was in a mclaren buggy by then no need for a pram and if no more kids on the way it'll never be an issue.

We have been camping for a few days with the Fabia without roof boxes or anything so if you are going that route you'll have no probs! I have also had a stage 1 seat + 2 booster seats in the back of my car when taking my sisters kids out. - You really can fit more in a Furby than you first think.

The Boca I would say has even less room in it (sure Lummox will argue with me on that) But me+lummox+owen+dog in dog crate went on holiday no probs and that included an unnecessary stacka box of owens toys for the week incase of rain!

Thanks missp

No more kids for me. 2 give me enough stress without the thought of a third :giggle:

I would have to put up with the pram situation for a time. I should have put my foot down when Donna ordered the pram that we bought. I did tell her that It was way too bulky, but I had "I'll be pushing It not you", thrown back In my face, not thinking that the reason why she bought It for would only matter for 6mths & then a lot smaller compact pushchair would do

140bhp diesel Touran, plus a Shark Performance remap?

With the eldest taken the role of front seat passenger I have religated SWMBO to the back behind me. She has sat behind me today & there were plenty of leg room for her.

Not made of money :dull: Still got to be able to afford my monthly feed at Snipe you know Bryan ;)

Sorry - wasn't sure what age Fabia you're considering, as they always seem to hold their value quite well, especially when looking at dealer prices :(

In a word no. It's useless. I pick my brother and his mrs up with their kid, one of the front seats has to move forward or there's no room for the baby seat. The maxicosie push chair doesn't leave room for anything in the boot. If we went for a long trip everyone would need to have stuff on their laps.

Matt

As you have found out the boot is pretty full by the time you have a pram in it, doable yes but no ideal.

And WTF are you thinking about with a 5 year old in the front? (booster or not) :o

I just think you need to think outside the box a little :D

You've modified your current car to how you want it so.....

Nice shout by Brimma also. Wouldn't mind a tweaked Touran myself

some nice thoughts there.

I went from a modded mk1 Octi vrs to a pd130 octi elegance and with a little money spent on it I started to prefer the tdi over the vrs and now I've moved onto a mk2 pd140 elegance I don't regret getting rid of either of the mk1's.

There is always the pd140 sport octavia if you want to keep the size of the octavia but the running costs of the tdi, or even go for the elegance hatch pd140 and buy/fit the sport/vrs bumpers for around £500.

While I said we managed with 4 of us in the fabia it was cramped and we only did short journeys and as someone else mentioned the driver and passenger got kicked through the seats by the little ones in the back.

You shouldn't need to worry too much about fitting the pram in the boot as you will be able to change that for a stroller soon which takes up alot less room.

Happy Car Hunting
