servicing deal

Featured Replies

Got an interesting deal sent to me re: servicing, from Birchwood at West Sussex Motors. If you have a Skoda up to 4 years old, up to 80,000 miles, and it has a recognised service history so far, they offer 2 annual services for £299 total. Car has to be UK spec.

I checked with them and that is apparently the bottom line - no extras unless wear and tear outside of normal servicing. Includes only Skoda genuine parts and the correct oil - in my case fully synthetic. Includes brake fluid change where appropriate (mine is, coming up to 2 years in Nov.)

Courtesy car offered to me for free if I prove fully comp insurance arranged - otherwise add £15 for the day.

As a check, I compared with my usual specialist dealer - generally a lot cheaper than this main dealer - and found that just the 2 year service alone, with details as above, would work out about £280. So this deal means my third year service and oil change will only be about £20 !!

Finally, if you sell the car on with one of the services not due yet, the benefit goes to the new buyer.

I had a letter similar to this. Think there was a mileage restriction on it, so for me it wasn't worthwhile.

Yes, 20000 per year, up to 4 years.

Would that include the cambelt ?

Would that include the cambelt ?

Highly unlikely as they are offering "2 annual services"

IIRC the cambelt is not included in ANY service, but priced as an addition item on top.

That it so cheap! Skoda NZ have just announced a similar deal. 4 years/60,000KMs servicing for NZ$1,950 (£875) or 6 years/100, 000KMs for NZ$4,500 (£2,000). Only offered for cars with variable servicing. Excludes tyres and WOF (MOT), but includes a set of brake pads on the shorter deal and a set of pads and disks on the longer deal.

I really like the idea of knowing servicing costs up front, but not at any price and this sounds really expensive to me.

Your 4 yr /60K km for approx £875 is a really good price, when i bought my fiat 500, i paid £1100 for 4 services ( 72k Miles max ). Which when i calculated per individual service would have come out at between £1300 - £1400 without any annual increase.

When my Octy arrives am going to ask what deals are around for a 3 / 4 yr service plan.

Yes but his price is only for variable servicing, so in effect just 2 services.

And I thought that the VW new car 3 year servicing pack was expensive at £250 !

Bear in mind that years 1 and 3 are "cheap" services and year 2 is the dearer one. I reckon this deal at £299, with main dealer, compares with about £400 at my less expensive local "specialist" dealer. (Made up of about £120 + £280)

I got an offer recently for 3 services (annual, not variable) for £516. and ability to pay over 16 months after a deposit. Guarantees the cost of the service so took it on, thinking it was probably a good deal.

Took car in today for it's first 'inspection' service (2 years old and just under 20k miles, as was originally on variable servicing).

They apparently had to replace the two front indicator bulbs, which I'm told were not working, and the high level rear brake light, which I'm told was not working. I can't speak for the high level brake light, as I can't see it when I'm driving (surprise, surprise), and I didn't get anyone to check before I took the car in. I am, however, pretty damn sure that the front indicators were working. They were Oscar Diadems, which had potentially caused the bulb light to appear on the dash. They changed the bulbs for orange ones, and didn't keep the old ones to return to me.

The service sheet came up as red for the brake light, ie needs replacing, and orange (advisory) for the indicator bulbs.

Upshot was, after thinking the cost of the service was covered, that I left the dealer £81.46 lighter.

As you can imagine, I wasn't too impressed, and made it known I wasn't impressed. I don't mind paying a bill, but I don't appreciate being fleeced.

Have to say the interior of the car was vacced when I got it back, but that'a pretty expensive bit of vaccing! :'(

Been there - done that! (many years ago).

But now I say nothing outside the regular service is to be done without phoning me up about it first. {Although, from experience, with my local specialist I do trust them.}

Also I check EVERY light is working before I leave the car with them, and check all my tyre pressures etc.

If I got the feeling that the main dealer (which is where I bought the car and who are pushing the current Skoda offer) were trying to make merry at my expense I'd never buy a car from them again - so their loss as much as mine.
